Roland TT-99 3-Speed 909 Special Edition Turntable

I can not say anything even remotely negative about this turntable! The first thing that you notice other than the retro Roland color scheme is how heavy this turntable is, weighing in at just over 21 pounds it does not feel at all chintzy or cheap. The turntable was packaged extremely well and was very easy to assemble, be sure to read the setup procedures for the anti skate and arm weight to achieve the best possible sound. Once setup properly the resulting sound from this turntable will not disappoint, from clear highs to deep lows the sound reproduction is excellent with good sound separation and dynamic range free of raspy sound which plagues cheaper products. The stylus light is a nice addition and Roland even thought to include the option via back side switch for Mag or line level output. Even with the turntable on a coffee table right in my subwoofer sweet spot the weighted dampening did a fantastic job at stopping vibrations from feeding back through the pickup however it did feedback (not surprisingly) with the dust cover installed and in the down position. From new release to old original albums I could not be more pleased with this purchase, Roland hit a home run in my opinion with this turntable!Edit: I have just recently changed out the stock AT3600R cartridge that came with this turntable with an Ortofon TM7 elliptical stylus cartridge that I just happened to have on hand and WOW what a difference, some of my LP's that just sounded flat or harsh have come alive with the new replacement cartridge paired with this turntable!Edit: I have been using this turntable for the past 2 months to listen to hundreds of old LP's and some new and NOS LPs. One thing that I have noticed is that with new or NOS LPs in mint condition or LPs with very little noise between tracks is that the internal pre amp will gate off the audio when it hits a certain low level and have noticed that the audio will drop completely out between some songs and even cut out prematurely when some songs are tailing off. I am guessing they implemented the gate to make the pickup silent when it is not physically on media. While some people may never notice this I have noticed this on several new and NOS purchases thinking it was the pressing only to find out it is in the turntable. I wish there was a way to disable this undocumented feature as it can be very frustrating to hear it cut in and out when a song has a long tail. Introducing rumble by tapping the turntable keeps the pre amp from gating, I have also increased the weight on the arm from 2.5 - 3.5 grams to 4 or greater and this will also improve the cut out but i hate to run the needle that heavy. I plan to test this with the switch set to magnetic as I suspect that this will bypass the pre amp gate circuit.Edit: Upgraded to an Ortofon Red stylus in late 2018 and it’s yet another step into another level of awesomeness! Absolutely no bass feedback at all volume levels. I couldn’t recommend the pairing of this table with the Ortofon Red more!

This is a great value and my husband is happy with it for DJing in clubs. I can imagine it's more than ample for home use too. He also likes the styling. Says it's reminiscent of a vintage vibe.

The thin plastic top resonates from bass and causes feedback.

Excellent turntable... great sound quality paired with the Edifier 1280DB Bluetooth speakers. Which I’m LUCKY is a good combination since the Roland turntable only offers RCA connections. Which is somewhat limiting. My only other complaint would be setting up the tone arm is a little frustrating. There is no mention of what the cartridge weight is, and the calibration instructions doesn’t exactly sync up... you’ll have to just play around until you get your tone arm to sit right. Otherwise, 4 Stars for a sturdy, sleek, great sounding turntable.

EDIT: When I wrote this review in August 2018, the retail price was $199. Now that it's over $300, I would without a doubt say it's extremely overpriced and a terrible value. You're way better off getting Audio-Technica LP120 for the same price with lightyears better fit and finish instead.Original review:It’s a decent table for the price point and to be honest, I bought it solely for the graphics because it just looks so cool. You could do both a lot better and a lot worse for ~$200.Negatives: I measured the wow/flutter at .25% which is edging into “noticeable” territory. While the unit has quite a bit of heft to it, the controls feel a bit more chintzy than I had hoped.All in all, it would make for a decent entry level manual table and perhaps a good alternative to more expensive second hand Technics 1200’s, but my beat up Gemini PT-2000 puts it to shame in terms of performance and finish.

If it doesnt have a reverse. Dont buy. Not worth it i returned and bought something for 50 dollars more and it was well worth it.

I have been collecting LP Records for years now and I was using a automatic Sony record player. As my collection grew I wanted to purchase a manual direct drive turntable. I came across this just days before it came out and was literally about to purchase a nice pioneer. After setting it all up this is exactly what I wanted, form the retro style to the awesome sound that I have experienced with Roland you will not be dissapointed with this turntable. I listened to my regulars from the Sony days on this table and it did make a huge difference maybe it was the Sony stylus compared to what this comes with but I did not regret this purchase! Well done Roland well done.

No complaints so far, and it sounds excellent. I have exceptionally good pitch, and I haven't detected a hint of wow and flutter. Has all the necessities, such as a light for finding individual tracks, intuitive switching for the three speeds, and an anti-skating control for the stylus arm. The power switch is a little weird, but it was easy enough to get used to.

I run a semi complex configuration in the form of a turntable, amplified speakers and SONOS speakers. I own an early eighties Sony PS T1 turntable and although it was working through my configuration, I had to have a preamp in my signal chain before the SONOS connect and there was always a little nagging hiss that I couldn’t get rid of. Putting aside that irritation, my ears were telling me that I was not feeling the super warm sounds that my vinyls are supposed to bring to my ears. So began my search for a new turntable. I wanted a direct drive for sure at a reasonable price range. I looked and read a bunch of reviews but I always went back to the Roland. For some reason I was always talking myself out of it because in my mind Roland makes musical gear ie amp, stomp boxes, electronic drums etc... I never new that Roland were dabbling in home audio. Long story short, I bit the bullet and I must say I am estatic to say this bad boy is awesome! Well packaged, solid construction at 21 lbs and looks bitchin’ AND I was able to remove the preamp in my signal chain which got rid of my nagging hissing issue and the sound is delightful! Down by the River from old Neil never sounded so great and it sounds even better through my SONOS speakers. Bottom line, if you are looking to enjoy your old vinyls on a quality turntable that looks and sounds awesome at a reasonable price, this Roland is highly recommended. NOTE: even though it is a direct drive and has the DJ capabilities, I have not tested it for that purpose so with regards of tork and all that jazz that DJs look for, I cannot provide any info. I’m just a music lover that likes to listen to vinyls through a good signal chain that provides a pleasant listening experience at a reasonable price. This record player is the nicest I've heard in my life. It has all the bells and whistles to keep the records sounding as natural as possible, and to top it off it looks absolutely phenomenal when set up. If you're looking to buy a record player, I'd suggest looking at the long term and purchasing this one, because its built to last a lifetime.

Great deck looks cool, matches one of my drum machines, but if you want one get it from long and McQuade for half the price
