This collar really works well. I was reluctant to try this collar for fear that it might seem cruel. But, I found that it was more humain than a flat collar. My dog used to pull so hard that she would choke herself, and make for an unpleasant experience when I walked her. She took to this collar on the first try, and immediately realized what her limits were. We now enjoy our walks together.

We have gotten a sweet little puppy that turned to be a handful for us old people.During the winter I fell several times by being pulled from the pup. The pup is 75 lb and I’m 130.The collar really helps the pulling now. The collar does not hurt the skin but the sound of the chain makes the pup aware of things they should not do.And I have not fallen since. My dr is happy for that.This is a good training tool.

I have a sweet 75 pound golden retriever, who is unfortunately quite reactive to cats, other dogs, and most recently elk. I had begun with a chest harness because it was supposedly good for dogs. She pulled abruptly and I fell two separate times. I then switched to a gentle leader over the nose, and upscaled to a Halti - that was better, but still not enough for her reaction to an elk herd when I was on a long walk. That time I tore my rotator cuff when she bolted suddenly - not okay.Then I watched videos by Jaimie Scott dog trainer and others, and rethought my ideas about a prong collar. I decided to get "top of the line", which everyone seems to agree is the Herm Sprenger, and to get the one with the clip (thank you to those who warned not to lose the slip cover part).Oh my, life is already totally different. Just a "correction" as taught by Jaimie and others, is sufficient for most of her distracted behaviors, and even when she wanted to bolt at a cat, I was able to snap a couple corrections and control her with just one hand!It is very important to know that the prong collar is not to be used to drag/pull the dog, but to give her a quick correction, akin to what a mama dog would do to a pup - "Cut it out, kiddo" is the message.She is willing to put on the collar - that says something in itself. She stands still for me to adjust it up behind the ears and center it. No problem. Sorry the photos aren't better, but she wanted her breakfast after her walk and kept turning haha.I have no idea if I will decide to use this the rest of her life, or she will become trained enough to return to a Halti, but I don't really care, honestly. I need to be safe and my dog needs to be safe. On that note, I also got a short clip to hook the Herm to her regular collar, in case somehow the Herm were to twist in such a way that it unhooked - also suggested by all the trainers I found on line.BTW I am only about 125# and not the strongest woman in the world, which also tells you how helpful this collar is!Be sure!!! to study how to use the prong collar safely and correctly, and, in my opinion, then just ignore anyone who thinks you are "hurting" your dog. Such folks just don't understand how a prong collar works.

I was hesitant at first, but walking my 30# terrier puppy is so much easier with this collar. She was getting harder to handle using a harness, and I had no control of her but this thing is a game changer. She is so much better after getting used to this collar. Highly recommend!

Really a well-designed, easy-to-use prong collar. It is easy to put on and remove, it’s sturdy, with prongs thick enough for the most powerful dogs, and works well with my 10 month old, 80 lb. puppy—and weighs about 2/3 of my weight! I started him in obedience training, when I adopted him at 8 months old—and not previously trained.My trainer recommended this collar. I was amazed that because of the design of the collar, it instantly kept him on heel, next to me!It’s well-designed and humane. I bought an additional “quick release” fastener, which can be changed out, but the original one is easy enough, that I haven’t seen the need to change it out.In using it, I was taught to keep my pup beside me, and hold the leash straight up. As long as he stays on heel, there’s minimal pressure on the collar. He’s smart enough that, as I move, he responds quickly, naturally staying in position on heel. So it’s a great, effective training aid.It also gives me confidence that I can control him. Squirrels and every other moving animal and wind-blown leaf, seem naturally attractive to dogs. The collar provides safety that he’s going to stay under control, and not suddenly bolt after anything that moves—as happens outside.The collar is a great investment, works, and gives me confidence I won’t be pulled off-balance, which is an important safety feature for me, with a relatively large dog. He is growing, so I also ordered 4 extra prongs to attach. Being able to adjust the size easily, by adding or removing a few prongs makes this a practical design. As a precaution: the prong collar should be used only when working directly with a dog. Otherwise, it should be removed, to avoid accidental injury.

This made a tremendous difference in managing walks with my shepherd lab mix. I no longer live in fear of being drug down the street. This dog is very, very strong and very stubborn. I do wish I would have gotten the collar without the quick release buckle and just used the prongs to remove or secure the collar. That black plastic thing is crazy, it falls off almost every use and frankly I am just going to throw that thing away as it a source of a lot of frustration. Collar is well made and does the job outside of that stupid plastic thing.
