Useful in niche cases.

Some ADSL modems have an RJ45 jack that provides both Ethernet (on 4 wires) and USB (on 4 wires). This adapter taps off the USB signal by merely connecting the 4 USB wires to the USB connector (see photo). There is no IC in it so it does not do protocol conversion (USB to Ethernet). It is strictly a physical adapter, not a data converter. Both of your devices must support USB for this to work.
