Q: can it be mounted on a pole?

Yes. As long as the pole has a hook on the end.

Q: Can you fill it with black sunflower seeds? Can the squirrels get to it?

I haven't tried but I believe the sunflower seeds will work with the feeder. As far as squirrels, my feeder has a squirrel deterrent and they are unable to get to it. I do think they would be able to cling to it and possibly do some damage to it. I love the feeder though!

Q: Does the the lid screw or snap on so it doesn’t easily open up by squirrels?

Lid gently snaps down on top of feeder and stays on. Squirrels eat sunflower seeds out of this. This is the 3rd one I have bought. Low priced. I do not use for seeds which may fall out through the holes. Ask someone else about seeds in this. Yesterday I had 7 squirrels feeding in my safe backyard.
