Caruana is a great Master of the White side of Ruy Lopez
There are two different types of 'Best Games biography, one written by the player themselves and one written by another Master. Andy Soltis is a truly excellent author and has done a great job with this book. Each game has an interesting opening commentary and ending. They are well annotated, very accurate and easy to read. There are many diagrams so that if you wish; you could enjoy reading it without a chess board.Caruana is a great Master of the White Side of the Ruy Lopez and you learn a lot from his games.By the way, nothing beats Alekhine's two volume (not the third one) Best Games, and Fischer's 'My 60 Memorable Games'. Anand, Kasparov and Karpov have written great autobiographical books as well.

not one of the "good Soltis" books
Soltis produces two kinds of chess books: labours of love and "potboilers". The former are excellent, the latter are competent but uninspired. This is one of the latter. (as is his book on Carlsen)The "good Soltis" books include: all of his biographical game collections on Soviet masters, Bobby Fischer Rediscovered (2nd ed), and Rethinking the Chess Pieces.[I haven't read his bio on Marshall, but I'd bet it's one of the good ones].FWIW: I suspect Soltis' love of chess peaks and ends with the Fischer boom, and this shows in the difference in quality between his books on pre- and post-Fischer era chess players.
