I got this for hosting Christmas Eve dinner on my patio. It was a cool night and I had this installed a few days before. It helped take the chill off but didn't actually warm the area. I've used it again since and had the same experience with it. As you can see from the pictures, I've installed it outdoors in an open/unroofed area. I imagine it might work better where the heat is able to be contained. Don't get me wrong, it does offer heat and it doesn't require time to warm up which is great, but I'm not sure I'd recommend this to someone going to use it purely outdoors as I have.

I bought this and mounted it on the side of my outdoor deck overlooking my turtle pond. I was concerned with the cold weather we were having because it was forcing my turtles into semi-hibernation and threatened to kill my koi fish. With this heater alone, it warms the whole pond area and even brought the water temperature up, making it more comfortable for the fish. The turtles love it! They crawl up the banks of their pond to get close to it and bask in its warm light. I like the subtle orange glow at night-time because it allows me to see the turtles sleeping comfortably next to it and even the fish in the water seem to glow luminescently. This fish and the turtles have both become more active and are eating better, and I don't worry about them anymore. This unit was exactly what I wanted and it works fantastically. Easy to install. Unobtrusive. Aesthetic. Functional. Can't beat it.***Update. The unit worked great for several months, but then it just stopped working. It got a lot of use while it worked, and it was outside. It may be fixable, but with my lack of electrical skills, it's scrap metal now.

The 1st heater worked just fine for about 2 weeks of mild use, then the filament popped in use and turned off. I had a spare filament and it stopped working within 24 hours. Amazon made a speedy exchange and the 2nd heater came very quickly. It didn't even turn on once. I had a Fire Sense heater for 3 years of moderate use and I replaced the filament about once a year. This new model STINKS! Now I feel jaded against infared heaters and I don't know what I'm going to replace it with!

I'm a cigar smoker who is relegated to the outside by the wifely unit. That means I freeze while I smoke or abstain altogether during the cooler months. My hope was that this heater would help extend the cigar-smoking season or banish the cold-weather altogether.I was anxious to receive and begin using this heater. Unfortunately, it arrived DOA, which required a call to Customer Support. They diagnosed a blown lamp and mailed a replacement out. A week later, I was in business.As heating units go, this one is "okay". It adequately heats enough space to keep me warm while I'm on the back deck. It does not throw a large enough bubble of warmth to cover a larger space, though. Keep in mind, this on my back deck, with no walls to help contain the heat. It might be great as a garage or enclosed patio unit.

Has no on off switch, wow, after I got it attached where I wanted it, I looked for the on off switch. To my amazment, there was none, nor does it have any heatsettings.

We bought this to take the chill off from our small (8x13'), screened in deck. We tried it in the morning when it was 50* and 60* and did not feel it warmed the air at all. We cold feel the heat on our face but not the air around us. It also glows extremely bright. I would imagine at night it would be blinding. Sadly we are returning it.

This product doesn't have an on/off switch which we found out the hard way will be an fire hazard because it can't be plugged/unplugged. Power connection actually caught fire... We didn't realize it didn't come without an on/off switch. This product shouldn't had been sold without this feature. Thank God we were not harmed...

Bought two for my outside deck area, probably should have only bought one. Two on the same breaker kept blowing. Heats nicely when it's not terribly windy outside. Wind actually does affect the heat reaching you but works nicely otherwise.

I installed this outdoors on a deck 8ft above a seating area in October in Canada and was probably unreasonably expecting a blast of heat. The product gives out a degree of warmth but if there is a wind at all it negates this. This is a product for late summer evenings probably when my wife feels the temperature drop and I’m still in a tee shirt.

It doesn’t work!
