Based on the sketch 1" is the width of the buckle. How wide is the actual strip?

The sketch is misleading. The buckle is 1.25 inches wide. The strap is 1 inch wide. The product is high quality.

Will this work for bird cage for the doors wont open.

They should work. They are pretty long and you should be able to make it work. But I think it will be hard to work it between the inside of the cage and the out to make the velcro tack together. Maybe use a heavy duty twist tie like the ones that come on bread but beefier to hold it closed
