Q: Does the base have to press against a wall? Id use this for squats, so Im worried it wouldn’t stay still

Not necessary, you can put some weights like dumbbell/kettlebell/weight plates on it to stop moving, then you can use it for what ever you want..

Q: Does this have to be bolted down or can I just toss a weighted sandbag on it?

I don't have it bolted. I just place a dumbbell on the platform, it works fine. I used a 85lbs/95lbs. I am sure lower weight works.

Q: Can I purchase the handle by itself?
