IMPORTANT TOOL for every network engineer.
It's basic, but it's necessary, and it works VERY well. Can't tell what switchport a wall port goes to? Throw on loopback detection on every port, plug this thing in, BOOM! Port identified! WAY easier than toning out cables!

Device Failed Its Test
Despite the warnings from other buyers and the fact that it is made inChina, I bought the device. Unsurprisingly it did not work. A refund is on the way. Hopefully that will work as it is made in the USA!

As others have stated, it DOES NOT work with a gigabit switch.
I bought it and tested it by plugging into my 24 port gigabit switch. The port light should have lit, but did not. So I returned it in exchange for another, and the same thing happened with the replacement. Checking the reviews, I saw some people say it doesn't work with gigabit equipment, so I tried it on a 10/100 switch, and sure enough, it worked fine, but it is clearly labelled as "Networx CAT6 Gigabit RJ45 Loopback Tester" ... gigabit.

Still not entirely sure how it works.
I got no use out of this. I won't give it a bad review just for that, but it could be more clear as to what it does. I wanted to use it to test my home data jacks, but I guess it's really only made to test cables? I still don't get it.
