MBA curriculum in less than 200 pages
As a soon to be business school grad, this book is an abridged version of the entire MBA program in less than 200 pages. "Creating Shareholder Value" was written with the intent to explain the shareholder value approach to management in detail, it goes above and beyond covering accounting, marketing, business communication (to investors, creditors, marketplace), working capital management, investment and re-investment in business operations, valuation, corporate finance, capital allocation and all aspects of business in the process, with real world (numerical) cases. CEOs, marketing managers, treasurers, operation/supply chain gurus, sales professionals, money managers and every profession in between should have this on their book shelf. Even more remarkable when you consider this was originally written in 1985, as the principles are relevant today in 2018 more than ever.

The Beating Heart of Finance
I have both the 1986 (1st) and 2nd edition of this book. Despite being 2 decades since the release of the 2nd edition, shareholder value creation remains the true north of what will guide businesses in building lasting value. The book discusses value drivers in creating SH wealth and points out that in creating that value, it does not mean an either/or scenario between shareholders and other stakeholders but instead a joint creation of value to all stakeholders by aligning incentives.

The Creation of a Buzzword
Amazing! Shareholder Value was the 'keyword' among Business Schools and Top-Managers in the last 10 years ... But apart from using the term as a 'management buzzword' nobody, it seems, has ever taken a look into the book ...! And this is more than understandable, because it is a very bad book: strong, but false statements, no precise academic or empirical analysis, of course no practical input from the author.I've never seen a more over-rated and under-sophisticated management concept. Better one saves the money and spent it for a good book or for a dinner with friends!

Still the Gold Standard for Creating Value
For more than 25 years, from the first edition to this current version, this has been the Gold Standard for defining and guiding managers to creating shareholder value. In the past few decades there have been a lot of silly business fads that have come and gone - TQM, Six Sigma, EVA, Re-engineering, but the disciplines Rappaport details serve managers far better than these transitory buzzwords ever did.
