Worth the buy for space savers
The media could not be loaded. Took a chance and tried this portable fire pit, I purchased the large size. Used it for a camping trip to Yosemite for 5 days. Was happy I got it in the end. Pro: portable, comes with a travel case, the mesh is very durable and flexible to roll up and fold away, the large size held 3-4 medium wood logs and I had it burning all night long. Great airflow for a good size burning fire. Had 5 people in my party and it was enough. Bottom pushes out heat so it keeps your feet warm underneath. Ash doesn't fall through but is contained by the mesh. Easy to clean the mesh after using just rinsed it off with the hose and let it dry in the sun. The metal poles did not have scorch marks but can get hot from heat. Cons: doesn’t come with instructions so I had to look at the amazon picture and I was able to figure it out. Not easily movable once a fire is started unlike other portable fire pits you can pick up and move this one cannot because of the legs. Legs do not lock in place but are held in place by the weight of everything when it is folded out. No other negative really.Buyer knowledge: get the large size, the medium is far too small or it’s good enough for a single person backpacking. Large is good for 1+ persons. Read the warnings first, if the mesh turns red as the fire burns you have to many logs and too much heat therefore you can burn through the mesh. A good log capacity for the large size is 3-4 medium size logs.Main reason for buying: wanting the luxury of a fire pit in campsites that do not have in ground pits but I also need something portable and space saving. It fits perfectly in my storage cubby inside my pop up trailer.

Lightweight and sturdy fire pit, also comes with amazing customer service.
First of all, I wanted to say that Rootless has amazing customer service. My fire pit came without one of the small plastic foot caps. This did not affect the usability of the fire pit at all, but I am particular when buying a new device. The Rootless team went above and beyond with quick response to make sure that I had the piece as quickly as possible. They were always very responsive to my questions and requests. This is not something that you get from all sellers on Amazon. I highly recommend them on the customer service alone, but the excellence of this product does not end there. This amazing little fire pit was just thing we were looking for to bring on our campouts. Not all campsites have a fire pit, but most campgrounds require a fire pit in order to have a camp fire. I have been looking for a lightweight and easily portable fire pit, but most of them were either too bulky or too flimsy. The Rootless fire pit was just right. The fire pit is lightweight and folds up easily into its own carrying case that is easily stored. It holds a good amount of firewood to make a nice cozy fire. The fire is also at a very back friendly height that allows for ease of stoking and good airflow for the fire. It is also a convenient height to sit around with the folding bag chairs.I was pleasantly surprised with the ease of use, durability, and especially the ease of clean up of this pit. This is easily one of the most useful additions to our camping gear, and it stores so compactly that there is almost no reason to not have it on hand. If you buy this Rootless Fire Pit you will not be disappointed.

Honestly, it's a great for when you need it.
I'm reading a lot of reviews which seem to be griping about some really petty issues with this thing. What's important to remember is to apply common sense when using something like this. It's not going to create a 12 ft. beach bonfire nor will it support 6 tree stumps. Sure it's slightly difficult to put back in it's carrying case but not really with a little practice.I was quite skeptical about this at first, but since using it I must say I'm quite impressed with both its simplicity and effectiveness. Just like with any fire, you'll need to know how to build an effective one and maintain it. And just like any fire, you'll have trouble in high winds - regardless of how sheltered it is. Suffice to say, this is not some miracle fire-maker. It's simply a sturdy surface in which to keep a fire off the ground.Do embers fall through the bottom? Minimally... I'd say with 2-3 logs burning you'll probably see one ember every 5 minutes. After a long burn, you'll probably end up with perhaps 2 tablespoons worth of soot that has fallen through. It's very safe and quite clean - impressively so. I wouldn't worry about burning anything down unless you're burning dry leaves and hay in high winds next to spilled gasoline. The base is a single unit which folds out. It feels quite sturdy. It can confidentially hold at least 20lbs worth of wood. The unit is quite cool where direct fire isn't touching, so minor movements are possible if you're careful though again - use common sense. It cleans up easy, especially with a hose but also letting it cool and simply carrying the entire unit to a trash can and dumping the ash is easy as pie as well. It packs small and light into an included decent quality bag.Its long term durability will depend on how long and how hot you burn things, and if you're using accelerants like lighter fluids, charcoal, and fire starters on it. Also if you leave it out or let water live on it, just like anything, it will eventually start to degrade. Again, common sense. But at it's price point, just buy another. In summary - a real fire pit is ideal, but when you can't have one then I would highly suggest this. What I thought was a gimmick is now going to be a mainstay in my camping supplies.

This little Fire Pit is AWESOME!
I just got mine today, and could not wait to use it! I wasn't disappointed! It's very light but ridiculously easy to assemble, and once you put your logs in it, it dips down to form a "bowl", much like a "regular" fire pit. I must say, I caught a lot of flak on one of the camping facebook groups I belong to - one unenlightened old hag even called me an arsonist! (Blocked her!) I would say it is just as safe as the smaller fire pits you see for sale today, plus it is incredibly portable. Going camping next weekend, and can't WAIT to use it. My boyfriend fell in love with it - I'm ordering him one tonight!Update: After trying it out in my backyard last night, I am even more impressed with this little pit! Not one single ash fell through the mesh overnight, and cleanup was very easy - I dumped the ashes into my big outdoor fire pit, then took a small brush to clean the mesh. It was a little hard to get it back into the bag, and that's when I realized what the strings on the OUTSIDE of the bag must be for! You can wrap the screen on the OUTSIDE of the bag, and use the strings to tie and secure it into one tidy bundle! This has got to be one of my favorite camping toys ever!
