Bought it for a graduate class. The book is unnecessarily long. Points are good but the writing style is zzzzz.

I needed this book for class, but sadly I had to return it. The text was extremely hard to read for several chapters because the ink was so light on some of the pages. One page was so bad the chart on the back side was easier to see than the text I needed to read. I’m exchanging it - fingers crossed the new one isn’t this bad.As far as the content- it’s easy to get lost in all the examples/stories. Overall it’s a good book with great business/organization leadership content; however, the book is much, much longer than necessary (all those examples and stories). On the plus side, I learned things I didn’t know that I didn’t know - that aren’t more than fun trivial facts (I’m always up for learning fun facts I didn’t know - except when I have to get through eight chapters in the first week of class).

The authors undermine their credibility early in the 7th edition by focusing on the events of January 6. For a book that aims to inspire thoughtful leadership and insight into organizational change, this choice felt immature and out of place, making me question the objectivity of the authors’ perspectives. No matter what you believe about January 6, opening with such a divisive topic is a poor choice for an audience that likely holds varied views. It’s like starting a speech to a group of Chinese citizens with commentary on the political situation in Taiwan or by referencing the Tiananmen Square protests—a move that’s almost certain to alienate part of the audience before your message even begins. This introduction detracts from the book’s credibility, making it difficult to approach the rest of the content with an open mind.
