in my opinion, to build core strength, the solid wood, old-school versions of this board are the superior choice. The hardwood provides zero cushioning and makes maintaining balance challenged must be focused upon. This balance board has a much shallower convex bottom there is not perfectly hard, but provides a slight pillowing effect. So while it’s not as challenging for the serious athlete, it does require concentration and a degree of effort to maintain balance, but the cushioning and the highly grippy textured rubber surface, along with the shallower base makes losing your balance – with a little practice – consequence Free. I used it while I prepared dinner at the stove the other night, for example, I never felt in danger of falling against the hot burner, but it was more activity then standing alone would’ve been. And in this usage case, it would actually be great for the serious athlete. I'm 58 so little challenges like this are pretty much required.

I was hesitant to buy this as it is different than what I was using in physical therapy but the one they use was $155 and takes up more space so that wasn't an option for me. I think it works just as well. I thought I would never be able to use it hands-free but I have. It won't be long before I can use it hands-free for every exercise. My only complaint is that the stubs that are on the top of it hurt your feet quite a bit if you use it barefoot (I couldn't use it barefoot) so you have to wear shoes but I would recommend this product. The price is certainly good compared to most other boards.

You can really feel it work your core and it’s very well made.

This balance board goes 360 which is healthy for working all proper muscles in your feet. That alone makes it more professional than other balance boards.The down fall is it doesn't allow you to spin around because of the bottom grips. If it had a detachable piece shaped like a shell for the bottom. Then it would be a two in one device, allowing you to possibly master motion sickness and different type of balance.
