It is nice to be able to use the camera from a power source other than the camera battery itself. This is probably not a concern for very many people, but I wish Sony had designed the Sony TX-30 to be able to both charge and run from the same USB souce- whether the USB was fed from A/C-USB or 12VDC-USB. With Sony you need one power adapter to charge and another power adapter (the AC-UD11) to run. The el cheapo and now extinct Kodak Playsport ZX-5 camcorder had the capability to charge and run from the same USB supply, but not the Sony. Of course the Playsport is a camcorder and the Sony is a camera, but they do both take pictures and video.

Honestly it works great, you can actually play and record without using your battery camera, of course this won't give you extended time of recording more than specified by your camera.

Use this to run your Sony camera when the battery is low. The regular charger that comes with the camera only charges the battery while in the camera, but doesn't let you use the camera. This charger functions basically as an AC adapter

The Amazon info does not mention this function that I can find on the description page.I am using this to recharge a SONY ICDTX50 digital voice recorder when a computer is not handy. Works great. Very convenient.

I love this item. I can easily charge my mp3 player in any room of my house. It is also great for travel.
