The Japanese flute has a history spanning more than 2,000 years. It has had an important role in various traditional Japanese art forms. Among Japanese flutes, shinobue is the most popular and familiar to common people. Its traditionally been played in hayashi style ensembles at local festivals and in ensembles accompanying local theatre. The general public also used to sing folk songs with shinobue accompaniment before the arrival of western instruments. Recentry, this traditional Japanese instrument is experiencing a revival through taiko groups. In a taiko ensemble, its warm and nostalgic sound will add a beautiful melodic taste accompanying with the dynamic taiko beats. Let's try it now!! This is our original bamboo shinobue, Shinobue Furyu. It has been sold well since it was released. Furyu-8 is tuned in a diatonic C scale. Bamboo-made shinobue is easier to make sounds than plastic-made one.

A really good shinobue!
This shinobue is really good, it's hand made and the lacquer finish is super smooth and clean, the paint is good, not the best but good, but the flute in general has been made really well and with care. the sound is perfect just like a shinobue should, like the wind. the case is cool to use and very efficient, the look of the flute is so nice and traditional, and for those saying it's not bamboo, i verified it was bamboo with a seller, and i also checked. if you look at the pattern it's bamboo, and on the top where there's a symbol for the hon of the flute, the edges are not painted and you can see the dotted pattern of the end of the bamboo on it. this is worth it if you can't get any other shinobue and the best one here, if you want to buy more from the same seller go to taikocenter on google, you'll find it has this flute and many more and they're all from really good makers.

Great Traditional Beginner “Fue”
Very nice traditional beginner bamboo Shinobue (Fue).Correct fingering holes for proper hand position while playing. (No underside recorder-type thumb hole).Good binding (Black colour) in 3 places to help prevent splitting (the drier your climate, or in areas w/harsh winters, the more binding required/desired).Pleasant tone, albeit on the “breathy” side (I happen to like the airy tone).Exterior shows bamboo texture clearly, while Interior is painted a lovely shade of red.Clear-coated exterior and interior protects instrument.Included:• Tradirional cloth (deep green & cream colored) foldover-style storage bag.• Fingering chart & instruction (Japanese language only). For those requiring English language, similar charts may be found online thru a simple search.Great first “Fue” for the price-point. Facilitates the learning process of a traditionally difficult instrument.I ordered one for my student via “PureJapan” w/expedited shipping. Item received from Nagoya, Japan, well-packaged, in perfect condition, exactly 7 days later. Thanks for reading,-CC, Amazon Prime Member-Reviewer

Beautiful sound, but it randomly cracked for no reason
I purchased my shinobue in October. It's a beautiful instrument with a beautiful sound, but I went to play it today and discovered a crack running nearly the entire length of the shinobue on one side. I know this can happen if it's stored improperly, so I've made sure to avoid leaving it in any rooms that get too hot or dry, and I keep it stored where my kids can't get to it. I played it yesterday and it was fine, only to discover this today. I've had it for juat under four months, that's not a very long lifespan for the price.

Quality and sound
I love the peace that comes with playing it just right! Even if it's just a single note!

What a fraud
I had high hope, but this is a joke.It feels like a toy, it has a funny smell, I don’t even feel the bamboo texture. For 80 bucks you’d expect more. This should be 10 dollars tops.

Lovely quality and sound!
Beautiful flute, excellent quality and lovely sound. The holes are a bit tricky for my western-trained fingers, but I'm getting used to it. This is my first Shinobue, and I would definitely buy it again!
