I bought eight of these to connect several Mac Mini's to VGA capable monitor via a KVM switch. I got everything hooked up, but lo and behold, the monitors didn't work... they were reporting no signal. I tried connecting the Macs directly to the monitor via an HDMI cable and it worked, so the Mac was outputting a signal. I thought maybe the KVM switch was the issue, so I connected the Mac to the VGA port on the monitor via the adapter, but again, no signal. I next thought the VGA cable might be the issue, so I tried another, and still no luck. Finally, I tried a different monitor, thinking maybe the VGA port on the monitor was bad, but no luck with the new monitor. My final conclusion is that none of the 8 adapters I purchased work. The specs say they are unidirectional (HDMI to VGA), but that is the mode in which I am trying to use them... HDMI from the computer to VGA on the monitor. If I hadn't waited so long to test these, I'd return them in a heartbeat. Update: I have changed my rating to 5 stars because Moread has gone out of their way to correct the issue. They sent me a sample of a different adapter, which worked as I thought the original adapters should, so then they replaced all 8 of the adapters with the model that worked. I was very surprised, but have to commend Moread on their customer service. Thank you for making this right!

Exactly as ordered. Double and triple check your connection needs, as DisplayPort and HDMI ports can be easily confused.

Works with Linux -- no driver or setup needed. I am too cheap to throw away one of my Dell VGA monitors that still works well and has such good dynamic range. I tried a couple of USB docks with VGA ports, but many of them need drivers and many more don't work with Linux at all. These Moread HDMI to VGA adapters were "plug and play" easy. Nothing to download, nothing to set up. They convert HDMI video from my Linux laptop into crisp clear VGA. There is no HDMI audio output, but I typically use a bluetooth headset anyway.
