Fruit Fly Culture Kit (Hydei Or Melanogaster) Will Make 10 Awesome Cultures

I was paying $15 per container of flies. I took a chance and ordered this kit. Meaning each container would actually only cost 4.00 each making them myself. It comes with 10 premeasured packets, a bag of Excelsior, 10 cups and vented lids... And excellent instructions. I started with one packet of the media. Followed the instructions, and one packet was more than enough to make 2 containers.. making each container I make only 2.00 each!!! I used Adult flies from a container I purchased Previously. And I put about fifty flies in each container after it cooled. Within 5 days, I had larvae climbing up the container.. Each of these lasts me a month to a month and a 1/2. If you have a need a constant flow of flies, once you have larvae changing color on the side of the container, make more. You will have a non-stop flow of flies to my experience.. This is an excellent kid to buy. I'm so happy I found these guys. It's saving me a ton of money. I highly recommend it. Instructions are very easy. The process is very easy. And gets easier the more you make. I prefer this kit because it has small pre-measured packets. And these flies are great for my teeny frog Until she grows bigger and can have crickets too... To get through the winter and as supplemental feeding. I also occasionally feed them to my Freshwater fish. They love them. Definitely a must buy!

This is an amazing product. Already producing a lot of flies! Just a word of caution. This is probably from my stupidity but the cups are very flimsy and the lids sometimes have trouble going in so double the cups up. I’ve broken 2 already.

This kit has saved me so so much money. I haven't had to buy a new fly culture in forever! However, I have to warn those out there looking to buy that after a handful of cups, my flies learned how to fly again, so please be careful. But that might just have been user error on my part!! 100% will be buying again and you should definitely buy if you and your pets want to save money :)

I originally bought this to make cultures for my geckos, then bought dart frog tadpoles a month later. The cups were perfect for raising tadpoles in, then when the tadpoles were moved to a vivarium I was able to reuse the cups for fruit flies. I only use half a packet of food per cup because I find my colony crashes halfway through eating anyway, and I use coffee filters as extra media. It’s been a few months and I have several fruit clue colonies and still plenty of materials

Easy to make. I have one tip though. Pour the boiling water directly into the container with the mix do not pour into a glass measuring cup then pour into plastic. The water will cool too much and the mold inhibitor wont work. Don't worry the plastic can handle it without warping. Once I did it that way I had zero mold issues. This was my mistake so not going to lower rating. Product is fantastic!!!!
