Evangelism Knots Me Up...But Not Anymore
I'm in the hospitality business, so opportunities to connect with others are frequent. And I've been a committed Christian for three decades, so you'd think I've be connecting on spiritual issues all the time, but I get knotted up every time spiritual issues come up in conversation. Mark's book explains the five different contagious faith styles (mine is story telling) and gives you the tools to help cultivate that which goes along with your personality. Better yet, Mark gives you the ability to cultivate other styles that don't necessarily go well with me, so I'm becoming a better Christian and a better evangelist. I'm very grateful for this helpful book!

Great For understanding how you can share the gospel
This book about Contagious Faith was great. It is a read for people trying to understand how to speak to others about the Gospel in a way that suits them. The book emphasizes the importance of allowing our faith to be contagious, but that is sometimes a challenging task. He shares a few experiences of encounters that go well and ones that do not, but he says the important thing is to find out what naturally fits you. In the book, he lists five faith styles people can fall into. In each chapter about the different styles of faith, he gives realistic examples of how this looks played out in culture; he provides biblical examples of the techniques executed and critical skills at the end that each person can think about as they consider one or all of the approaches. Lastly, at the end of each chapter, he provides some cautions to contemplate as you think about what fits you. The book's goal, per the author, is that we are made to know God and introduce him to others around us. It doesn't always stop at the introduction of Christ but continues into helping them follow Christ, eventually leading them to introduce others to Christ. If you ever need to figure out what to say or how to say it, or if you are even doing it right, this book is excellent. It will help you acknowledge those barriers and give you a starting point in getting the courage to speak to others about Christ in a style that fits you. Even though this is an excellent book for thinking about how to share Jesus, there are a few things that the book could have included. Regarding culture, it is really good to know your audience. Statements and gestures, even styles, can appear unfavorable in certain situations. The book did not emphasize the importance of cultural knowledge and that the church is persecuted at times and in certain places; it is essential to know that. The book listed a few examples that, even though they ended well, you can see the cultural implications they could have had on the individual they wanted to reach. Lastly, the book provides a wealth of information regarding Christianity being missional, but it would have been a significant contribution to advise the readers not to be robots. A few examples listed are that they wanted to bring people over just to talk with them about God. I don't think it is terrible, but you rely on the holy spirit to guide you and let you know when to ask questions about their faith journey. When it becomes mechanical, it’s not genuine, and people dont believe you care, so they leave feeling unheard, and that’s not what Jesus intends. We must be in true communion with each other and advocate biblical truth to help people in whatever challenges they may have with the Gospel. Overall, this book is an excellent jumpstart to understanding how to talk to people about the Gospel of Jesus.
