Q: Does this -- either the plastic or the metal one -- work well getting labels off of hard plastic (like a plastic trash can)?

I found heating up the label, a little, first helps it peel off even easier, otherwise it might scratch the plastic. I use it on plastic and really like. I have the plastic and the metal Scotty Peeler and think they are really helpful.

Q: I need a product to removed barcode labels from library books so that they can be reused. Will this remove them without damaging them?

I use these and the plastic scrapers on books with the product, Un-Du -- it is GREAT for dissolving the adhesive without damaging the book! I was apprehensive at first, but it's safe and leaves no residue on paper.

Q: Will this remove packing tape from amazon boxes?

I use it the remove stickers from hardback paper covers & paperback books. These materials are a little bit “harder” than cardboard. If you dig into the cardboard, you will have to fight the cardboard in addition to the tape. I just now gave it a try. The peeler was great for starting the plastic tape, then I pull up by hand after that. Then go after another corner until all the plastic tape can be removed. I do not remove the Amazon “paper” tape as that is recyclable. I did just now tried it, a little, on an Amazon box, and it worked but some of the box came up with the removal. Some bad and some, just a little.
