Surviving Hell: The brutal true story of a Chennai Six prisoner
D**D
A harrowing tale of corruption and imprisonment.
Nick Dunn is a former British soldier.. After serving his country he decides to take a job in security, specifically on an anti-piracy ship protecting vessels for Somali pirates. While aboard ship the Indian coastguard board and accuse the men of being in Indian waters with illegal weapons. The men know this to be untrue and believe it will be sorted out quickly…fat chance.. due to the vindictive and corrupt nature of the Indian justice system Nick and the rest of the men are about to be trust into hardship and uncertainty that would break many. This tale isn’t just about his time in prison.. it’s a reflective look at his life and event that ended up with Nick being in India.. Nick had a lot of time to look back at things.. he doesn’t have regrets.. it’s just a simple series of events that have led him here but he won’t let this get him down.. he has to be strong. We also learn of Lisa, Nick’s sister who campaigned tirelessly for his release and the amazing connection between the two of them.. a bond that could never be broken no matter the distance. In the current climate this book is the perfect read.. Nick had to deal with isolation.. had to deal with the stress of things being out of his control.. I know it’s a very different situation but reading about his strength during that time can help you see that things could be worse.. if he made it through so will we.What amazed me was the telling of his time in jail… you’d be forgiven for thinking he was just imprisoned from day 1… not so.. in and out of jail, on bail, back to jail, freedom of sorts..to have it crushed and forced back to jail seemingly out of spite more than anything..I can’t imagine the stress that must have caused Nick and the other men.Nick was shockingly let down by many.. just not those closest to him.. his family. It wasn’t an easy ride for them either. As we all know life moves on regardless of events that might happen to you.. how do you balance a life when a member of your family is locked up on false charges. To say this book is a brilliant read is an understatement.. that seems like the wrong word if you look at the subject matter.. it’s a harrowing tale of corruption and imprisonment but also sheer strength of will.. that in the end sees Nick home with his family.

Mind blowing!
I can't fathom how people of power can be so careless and cruel. How a government can neglect their duty of care to not only their own citizens, but veterans who have put their lives on the line for their country, knowing all evidence shows they are innocent of the accusations made against them. The resilience & sheer determination shown by Nick, his family & the other lads detained in Chennai is incomprehensible. There were many times during this read I got to the end of a chapter and had to go back to read it again, only because I had continued to read despite my mind still being stuck on things mentioned in the first few pages. And as if that wasn't enough, everything going on with him family back home ontop of his plight...& yet he is still here to tell the tale. This lad and the other 5 were practically abandoned by the Goverment, but not by all of us. An inspirational story or struggle & sheer will. Wholeheartedly recommend 👌

Learning the truth
Having watched this story on tv it was very interesting to read the facts. We criticise the justice system in the UK but maybe we don't realise how lucky we are. I thought Lisa was terrific for Nick but itwas much more than that. Really hope that all the family can find some peace. Would have given 5 stars if not for the man unt story !!

Nick Dunn survived Hell. His story needs to be read!
I bought this book a few days ago and read it in two days. I read about it months ago and eagerly waited. I was not disappointed. Nick, a local lad to me, is a former paratrooper which undoubtedly help to save his life. He and his colleagues were employed to assist in protecting sailors from Somali pirates. Not a job for the faint hearted! He was wrongfully arrested and with his colleagues spent six years in captivity. Despite brilliantly descriptive writing it's hard to imagine just what the men went through in the filthy and very dangerous prison. Nick has surely spared us some unpleasant details! While Nick was in prison his sister Lisa campaigned for his release. I don't have a sister but if I did I would want it to be Lisa. She has never heard of giving up! She did everything possible to secure his release. Also, when Nick was imprisoned his mother became seriously ill requiring surgery. Just like Lisa, Mum was not one to give up.I wish I could have been at the airport to welcome Nick home. I'm sure there were very few dry eyes. I hope, one day, I will get the chance to buy Nick a pint or two.

Disappointing
I have read and enjoyed a lot of books in this genre, not that I enjoy reading about people have a hard time, but I still find it an interesting read and sometimes an unbelievable read.Unfortunately Nick Dunn spends all his time talking about the fact they were all innocent, which I’m sure they were, and how everyone with any sort of power or influence in India was against them. In the end it just became boring. They were there 4 years and there was barely a page devoted to the conditions of the jail or any stories that could have been told about their experiences during their incarceration.I purchased this for my Kindle and eventually gave up at about the 75% mark.
