Hard plastic. You would not want it to be flexible with it holding water. It would let water escape back into the tubing.

Q: Do you cut the tubing and if so is it best to cut closer to the humifier bottle?

Hello, Yes, just cut the tubing, the best place and where we install the trap is along the lowest place the tubing will actually be. In most cases along the floor somewhere the tubing is lying. Applying it up high near the bottle won't allow it to do it's job properly! Thanks!
