Bellemain 4 Cup Separator Review
This is a handy light plastic separator. Plastic is better than glass, as glass will break in a busy kitchen. The black plastic cover has holes to strain your liquid, which is probably something I will never use, but is also not a problem. Most of us will strain a large quantity and separate most of oil/fat vs. water based liquids (stock, broth, whatever you're making) in a Chinois or a good strainer, and then will use the separator with a liquid which has already been strained. When you use this, or any similar product, consider starting your separation by pouring out a bit and gently adding it back into separator to eliminate any oils that settled in the spout. That only adds a couple of minutes of work and makes the final product cleaner. Separating water based liquid is easy if you follow that step. It will virtually eliminate all oil/fat. If you on the other hand you want to separate water out of an oil and keep the oil, let's say you made a chive, leek, basil, or other other oil, you can do that too of course. That is a little tricker but can be done also. You just let the liquids settle and separate. You will end up with mostly oil in the spout, and you will lose this oil when you pour off the water liquids. Pour off the (mostly oil) and then gently move the spout to fill your storage bottle with whatever infused oil you have produced. Very simple. If you want, you can follow the "add back" step here too, to save the first pour to clear the spout. The elimination of water will make your infused oil cleaner and more visually appealing. I suspect it will also make it more shelf stable, if you want to keep it in your fridge for up to a couple of months, maybe even more. If you make small quantities like reductions and wish to separate oil and water liquids, you may choose a 2 cup separator instead of this 4 cup one. I actually bought both the 4 and 2 cup version for this reason, but the 4 cup works well for this too if you want to buy only one. If I could improve one thing it would be that I would make the hole for the spout in the bottom of the separator a shade smaller, which I suspect would make it slightly easier to get rid of water liquids when I make infused oils (I don't know that for sure), but I still rate this a 5-star product. Happy Cooking!

Excellent and easy way to separate fat
This works great! I used it last evening for the first time. I had prepared beef short ribs in my 8 Qt. Instant Pot pressure cooker, and, of course, there was a lot of fat - typical of ribs. I wanted to use the sauce but it just had too much fat. I pulled this fat separator out of the cupboard, put the strainer in place (which fits very nicely), and, after removing the ribs, I was able to pour the entire contents of the pot (onions, carrots and sauce) into the cup through the strainer. I returned the vegetables to the pot and almost immediately the sauce had separated from the fat. It was very easy to pour the sauce back into the pot without all that fat. Simple and effective. It's also a nice size - large enough to accommodate the contents of the pot with room to spare. Thankful I have it!

Worked good not great for what I used it for.
This thing takes up a LOT of space to store, between the sheer size of the cup then add the spout and handle man oh man I just don't have that kind of room for something only used once in awhile. That being said it does seem very well made not cheap at all and handles hot liquid nicely. Isn't too heavy when completely full. I tried it for the broth from boiling a left over ham bone that still had plenty of meat and unfortunately fat. This didn't work too well for that..not sure why but seems like it would work for other types of fat separating such as turkey or chicken broth. Also you'll have to make sure you have a small tube type cleaning brush because the spout gets nasty and is impossible to clean without a brush. I sent mine back do to lack of kitchen storage and that it didn't work for what I tried.

Great for smooth gravy without the fat
Good size. Never had one with a stopper for the pour spout. It keeps liquid out of the spout so the fat/oil has a chance to rise to the top of the cup keeping almost all the fat out of the spout and out of your gravy. Liked the strainer top. Handle has a good gripping surface. Worked really well and cleaned up nicely.

Looks to be the real deal
Wow, for the price, this appears to be a great product. It just arrived today (VERY quickly) so I haven't tried it out. But compared to the old one that I'm replacing, this appears to be a far superior product. This one says it's heat resistant to 400 degrees, so it shouldn't crack when I pour hot liquid into it (the demise of the old one). It is overall very sturdy feeling and the handle is comfortable and won't slip if my hands happen to be oily (we ARE dealing with de-fatting stuff here!). The strainer fits in and out nicely. The strainer to my old one fit snugger which made it a little difficult to take off with hot "strainings" in it without slinging the stuff everywhere or sloshing the hot liquid in the cup. I'm not so sure about the stopper. Says, it's supposed to stop grease from getting into the spout. At first I thought that it was supposed to stop you from pouring grease into the spout. Well, how hard is it to pour your liquid into the great big opening of the cup??? I then realized that maybe with the stopper sealed in the spout, that would prevent greasy liquid that you pour into the cup from rising up through the spout! Will test that theory out tomorrow when I make up a gallon or so of chicken broth! At any rate, this appears to be exactly what I was looking for and a good deal to boot.

Excellent separator with large capacity
I am quite happy with this product. First off, it came promptly, even though I don't have Amazon prime, and it was packaged nicely and the separator is well made, and sturdy. I love that it comes with a strainer and plug. When it got delivered, I was actually boiling some chicken carcasses to make stock for chicken noodle soup... We had all been sick that week, so I was able to use it immediately. I poured the stock through it, and the strainer caught all the big pieces of chicken and veggies. The fat rose to the top quite quickly, and I was able to strain a giant pot of chicken stock in not much time at all. The 4 cup capacity is awesome... Its much bigger than most separators I have dealt with in the past. I really don't have anything bad to say about this product, and at the price it's listed at, it's a great buy.

Outstanding totally a must for any cook
This works great easy to use very easy to separate the both from the fat. I love the stopper which keeps everything in the bottom separating what you want separated keeping the good stuff on the bottom. It keeps all the big things like bone and pieces of fat out. I do have to hold the top on when pouring but for me that isn't a big deal. This is a must for anyone looking to separate liquids. I would not give it up for the world. Best one I have found. Words just as the seller said it would. It got here fast, no damage.
