Great!!
Great shoe at a great price!! I’ve bought Altra before so knew I would like them. I will most likely buy again in the future. They last a long time for me and are quite comfortable

Run Small.
Nice feel, but they run small, make sure to buy at least a whole number up maybe a number and a half. Lightweight, comfortable running shoes.

Wide range of capabilities
These are a great compromise shoe, making them really good as a daily trainer. Go long, go fast, they do it, in comfort, and good toe splay.Caveat is my large toenail detached after running my third half in this shoe. Trying to understand why, I looked closely and realized they are too short. I should have noticed right in the beginning, but didn’t. So my toenail kept banging against the front of the shoe. I don’t know if my pair was an outlier or what, but check carefully before using them (as it’s now too late for me to return/exchange them). Size 11 from every other brand I have tried fits well, these maybe should have been 11-1/2.

Really comfortable shoes
I’m a 70 year old male way past my days of competitive 10K road racing but I still enjoy a good 6 mile jog in a comfortable, good fitting, well made, lightweight, well cushioned shoe. So far the Altra Torin line has given me exactly that. In the past I’ve owned Torin IQ, Torin 2, Torin 4 Plush and the Torin 5’s I’m reviewing here. I have a fairly wide foot and the Altra Natural Foot Shape Last really works well for me. I’ve owned Altra Rivera, One, Lone Peak, TIMP, Superior, and Provision. I’ve enjoyed them all, but the Torin line has been my favorites. For jogging on hard surfaces; like concrete walking paths in San Diego or black top bike paths like the Tucson Loop, the Torin shoes give me the best combination of comfort and cushion I’ve found and I love the zero drop heel configuration. As far as fit goes, I like to walk when I play golf. My best fitting golf shoes are Adidas 8.5W or Nike 9W. To get the Altras to fit right I need to buy a size 9 regular. So they seem to be a little shorter than Adidas and more inline with the length of a Nike shoe, but since the Natural Foot Shape toe box is so wide, the regular D width is OK for me, fit wise.

Tongue cuts ankle and shoe falls apart before 200 miles
This was the final straw for Altra for me. I used to enjoy their torin series, but I purchased two of these shoes and they both started to fall apart after less than 200 miles. On top of that, the tongue really digs into your ankle. I have no idea how they failed so miserably on this shoe.Altra warranty: I reached out to them regarding this, and they were less than helpful saying "the product life depends on many factors". I ran less than 200 miles on the pair strictly on the road and the upper was pulling up from the sole. They did not provide any assistance and were overall very rude. I am not going to buy any more Altra ever - their quality has declined drastically in the past few years and their customer service is abysmal. Trust the other comments- the shoe is that bad

UPDATED 2 MONTHS: Runs Small - Order a size up!
UPDATED REVIEW 2 MONTHS USEI reordered in a size up (I usually wear 10.5, sometimes 11 like in vans slip ons, but I needed 11.5 in these) and have really enjoyed them! They are very comfortable for walking, plenty of space in the toes. However, at two months of light use (average of ~1 mile per day, just walking NEVER running) they are already showing signs of falling apart. For a $100+ shoe, I’d expect more longevity and high quality. As you can see in the pictures, there’s already a hole in the upper, the tread falling off by the toe (I had to superglue it back on), and a lot of wear on the soles.TLDR: While I like these shoes, I’m disappointed by the quality.ORIGINAL REVIEWDidn't get a chance to use them yet, as I order my normal size and it was too small. After googling, this seems to be normal - I would order a half size up! Even better, order a full size up as well to compare.

Very comfortable - no issues with tongue
I've worn Altra for many years now. I can't say I appreciate or like every new version on the Altra models I wear, but the Torin 5 has always worked well for me. The toe box is adequate and I have not experienced any uncomfortable friction from the tongue, as some have pointed out. However, I noticed the tongue was a bit stiff out of the box but after wearing for a week things seemed to soften up a bit. These shoes not only look good (all white with orange laces), they are incredibly comfortable, as expected. If you're on the fence, I would say to give them a shot. If they don't work for you, send them back.

Painful Shoe
The shoes are fine overall, but the way the tongue is made caused cuts to form on my ankles. The material is very stiff and has a sharp edge. If your socks do not come up high enough to go under the tongue, it will actually cut into your flesh. I developed a cut on both ankles that took weeks to heal. I've since started wearing longer socks, but this shouldn't happen. Bad design and materials. Do not recommend.
