Great dry fire book.
Great dry fire book. I'm a new shooter - I used to shoot in college, then once I got out I became busy with many other pursuits and left shooting behind. Got back into it in 2014 and it became one of my favorite hobbies. I wanted to improve and reduce my flinching which led to research on the web and the discovery of dry firing. I started dry firing by using double action trigger pulls, single action trigger pulls but thought "there's got to be more than just this." I started making up drills around Christmas time, drawing and dry firing at blinking Christmas lights strung out around the home, trying to get a light before it blinked out (1.5 seconds). I was actually going to leave the lights up but then discovered other types of drills and timers, then that eventually led to this book. This makes dry firing a LOT more fun and interesting, and challenging. By diligently applying myself I got my draw to aim from the aforementioned 1.5 seconds down to 0.6 seconds and better, my reload times following a similar improvement curve. Highly recommended.

How to REALLY Practice
Until I got my hands on this book I thought I had been dryfire practicing like the top GMs. I was wrong. Stoeger's approach is efficient, comprehensive, and unlike the plans in other training manuals I've used. It is also customizable in that it allows you to mix and match exercises to fit your needs in a training plan. What I really liked is that this isn't just a list of USPSA classifiers with tables so you can chart your performance over time. In fact, Stoeger gives a very strong rationale for why tracking your times on the drills isn't helpful. While tracking performance may not be the goal, Stoeger does provide performance benchmarks, and more importantly, a method for ensuring that your skills translate to live fire.He says very plainly - and after practicing the drills I can see that it's true - that the approach laid out in the book is what took him from a very good shooter to the best Production competitor in the country. If you want to take your practice sessions to the next level, this is the book to buy.

Dryfire
There are great sets of drills that focus on specific skills. Very helpful to the beginner. May not have as much value to those with a lot of experience.

buy, use, win
I loved the first volume and feel equally so about the 2nd. This is the book where you commit to the Practical Shooting lifestyle - where your family doesn't mind hearing timer beeps, seeing you running around with your competition gear on, hearing click click click, and where walls in your basement have mini-IPSC targets tape all over them. But if you do commit, even partially to the lifestyle, you will get better. Dramatically. Just the initial White Wall Marksmanship Fundamentals, if done faithfully, will make the typical shooter/competitor significantly better than before. The authors do what's in the book. You can too, and it's up to you how much you want to invest and how much better you want to be.These two books are what I give my promising students now. It's up to them to offer the commitment the book seeks.

what a pleasent suprise!
this is def the book I needed to step up my training program. I am very impressed with the simple yet VERY challenging drills. The beauty of the drills contained in this book are they list different goal times to work towards, it's humbling to say, "yeah I got this" and the par timer go off while you are still working the drill. I have had several "ah HAH!" moments while performing these drills which has caused me to reevaluate some of my techniques. I have been reccomending it to several of my shooting friends and telling them if they be impressed. The only way this book wouldn't help you is if you don't read it!

it's ok
I wish I read the reviews before purchasing. My husband requested these. I bought volumes 1 and 2. I was expecting books but they are more like pamphlets like one of the reviews said. My husband read the "books" so I guess it is ok. I don't know if it was worth it though.

Great Book
Unlike other dryfire books that focus on classifiers, this book will improve your overall match performance. Ben breaks down each drill, explains his rationale, and details which part of the game it will improve. He also provides times as guidlines to strive for. Like his other books, this one goes beyond the basics. His drills cover almost everything that you will encounter in a match. Each exercise can be used alone to isolate individual skills or combined to create mini stages and link skills together. Again, there are goal times listed to give you an idea of where you stand and what is reasonable to strive for. This is a great book and if you put in the effort, you will get better.

Jay Hirshberg is a genius. He's given us the keys to a stripped down race bike of a shooting book. Jay really taps into his well of knowledge and unlocks the reader's true potential as a shooter. As straightforward and easy as this book is to understand it's no wonder that if followed the improvement is practically immediate. Thanks Jay for presenting a no-nonsense approach to what it takes to be a contender in such a fabulous sport. Ben was good too.
