Remington: The Theriot Family, Book 1

Remington
This was a good mafia romance. It features the head of a New Orleans mob family, and a novice prostitute he meets while on a stake out. They start out with a business arrangement, but it quickly turns romantic and sweet, and they are well on their way to an HEA.

Rough smut is, thank the gods, ACTUALLY rough 🥰
It would've been 4.25 stars if not for the stupid adoption thing at the end, to be honest 😅 Even when I'm not reading about a het couple, I still can't escape the pregnancy trope.Anyway. This book was a ton of fun. It was not written very well by any means, but I don't think it was meant to be. I think it was meant to just be this fun, romantic, smutty story about a guy in the mafia who is more a vigilante than a mob boss, by the way, and I'm not complaining about that.I will say that this is the first time I've seen rough smut actually done well, so I really appreciated that.It was a fun time, and that's all I care about.

A beautiful gay mafia romance with all the feels!!!
Remington is head of his criminal family. He is a strong, dominant figure. But one night he makes a mistake. Thst is when he meets Henry. Henry is on his own and living in extreme poverty. Remington takes Henry home on the promise that after two weeks he will set him free with enough money to start his life over. But neither man expects what happens next. Loved Remington and his two brothers Corbin and Lance. There is a deep bond with the three brothers. There is great charm and chemistry between Remington and Henry. Henry is such a vulnerable, sweet character that Remington can't stop himself from taking care of him. Of course there is the drama from other crime families. An enemy bent of revenge. But with that is a strong family unit who would do anything for the other. Remington can be incredibly wonderful at times. I love that Sylvia Violet let Remington romance Henry. The two men have beautiful conversations and plenty of tender times. But also an overwhelming of spicy times. I can't wait to read about Corbin and Beau!! And who will Lance find that Tony will accept??? This series starts off with a bang!

Insta-love in a mob-story! Really!?
By all accounts, Remington's a well-written book, hence the 3-star rating. It's character-focused with the relationship between the MCs being front and center. As it should be in a romance. There's a secondary mafia/crime-related plot providing the outside drama, and in theory, that's a good thing in my eyes. But come on. This is a so-called mafia romance. The mafia MC, Remington himself, is supposed to be dangerous and imposing, maybe even cruel. Yet this story is freaking insta-love! I don't mind the hard, tough-guy MC going soft over his love, I prefer it which I bet is the norm for romance readers. But having a supposed crime-boss acting all gooey from pretty much the first page is just... Not the kind of story I wanted. It's not how this book is described and marketed.I could probably have seen past that - in my eyes - failing. But then came strike two, namely a story setting that won't hold up because the author can't portray it in a believable way. I'm talking about the whole mafia-thing. The secondary plot, and all the things concerning the crime aspects of the story were just so inelegantly done. There was obviously no effort put into making this the slightest believable (notice I say believable and not accurate or true to life, it doesn't have to be. The reader must be convinced though). Instead, this premise of the story - which is pretty central - is just silly. If you don't know anything about a topic yet insist on including it in a book - do the research! Or just read other fiction with the same setting. Do something to stop the characters from looking like bumbling children trying to be bad-ass!So yeah, my rating's a 3-star exclusive based on the writing technically being good. It's the actual story that was the disappointment.

Amazing
I love this author and this book. You meet Remington who’s this controlling, possessive, and takes no kind of guy and I love how the author wrote him because he really portrays these qualities. While most people would be turned off by these kind of traits I like how the author wrote more about him about his past and his hobbies that described him more than being this mafia boss narcissistic kind of guy.You meet henri who’s works on the street trying to get himself out of debt. While I love henri in a way he’s naive and so many red flags about Remy comes up but is ignored but at the same time Remy is a good person but if it had been anyone else it would’ve been very scary for henri.I’ve put this book on hold for awhile and now I regret it because it was so good in a short time period. Can’t wait to read Corbin next.

Interesting start to a series.
Written in dual first person POV. Good amount of M/m sexy times. No real humor but I wasn’t really expecting any. Can be read as a standalone but characters from her other books are mentioned (specifically Niall, X and Giorgio) but I haven’t read anything else by this author and I understood this book just fine. The author mentions at the end of the book that this book is part of the Marchesi world but the only characters I recognized were part of the Vengeance series titles. There were some editing issues and specifics regarding what Remy’s family actually did were missing but it was still a decent read. You must be able to suspend disbelief that the future leader of a mob family is gay (or bi?) and that it is treated like a non-issue. Seriously, it’s not even brought up; it’s just accepted as fact.

Worth the wait/read
Another great series from Silvia Violet. Remington ran into Henri after he had accidentally wrecked his car and Henri came to help. Henri had become a working boy after his mother’s illness and death. Henri dream of a beautiful husband and family with a fairytale life, but he didn’t think Remy was the answer even though he had fallen in love. Remy felt he had to protect Henri but couldn’t protect him from the heartbreak he caused. This is a beautiful love story and I enjoyed reading until the end. Looking forward to Corbin. I have read many stories by Silvia and all of them kept me entertained.

Hot, hot, hot!
Remington Theriot is not a man to be trifled with! He is controlling, demanding, beautiful, rich, and unbelievably ducking hot. Most people would be terrified of him, and they would be right, but Henri is so turned on by Remy’s demanding nature it makes him weak in the knees. This book by Sylvia Violet is the first book I have picked up and read from start to finish in the same day in years. Sylvia’s characters warmed my heart as d the sex. Omg. The sex. It’s like Sylvia had a direct link to every kink that has ever made me fantasize and lose my mind! Well worth the read. I can’t wait for the next book in the series!!!!

A p0rn without a plot with good spicy scenes
Take the story (or more the structure) of Pretty Woman, add to it just a dash of Disney's Beauty and the Beast, dip it in the Mafia world, and you get this Remington. However, like I said in the title, the story is just an excuse to have the characters have sex. It's really not that well developed to the point that everything happens so quickly. Even the romance was very insta-love. But I mean, the characters are just walking stereotypes, so it couldn't be otherwise: we have the alpha hero, and the "pure and innocent" love interest. This second one also felt like a stereotypical heroine instead of a young man. We even have the trope of the protagonist wanting to take (and being obsessed with) his love interest's virginity. It just didn't feel like I was reading of two men. That said, what mostly didn't work for me was the Mafia setting. I'm not gonna lie, I've always side-eyed this genre and, if one of the categories in the reading challenge I'm doing this year hadn't been this sub-genre, I would have probably never picked up this book to begin with.I just find it so odd and in poor taste how they romanticize this group of criminals. Especially since the mafia in this book couldn't be more different than the real one. Honestly, why even call it that? Here the author not only make sure to have the reader know that the protagonist doesn't kill women and kids but also makes him act as vigilantes since him and his family kill other mafia groups that sell drugs to children. I'm sorry to say it in such a harsh way, but it just sounded stupid. Even more than the other protagonist being a s3x worker but that had never done 4n4l.I really tried to read this book with an open mind, but again, I just don't like how they romanticize these kinds of people. It feels wrong. The positive? The spicy scenes. I usually find them really boring but here they were quite good. If you like erotica and mafia romances, you might like this one.

Some good mm Mafia book
I love possessive and dominant Remingtong. A mob boss who gets what he wants. And Henri is such a cutie. I love their vibe together. That's the kind of mafia mm book I enjoy. It is not so dark, there is action, a storyline, character development, and enough spice!!!

Great start to a new series
This is the second spin-off series from the Marchesi and is just as good. This series is set in New Orleans and follows the Theriot family who like the Marchesi are mafia. This one follows Remington - Remy who is taking over from his father as head of the Family and Henri a prostitute whom Remy picks up after witnessing the murder of a rival. Things then go downhill and uphill from there but they do get their HEA in the end. Looking forward to the next in the series.
