My only negative was that the emotional connection between these characters happened so fast and only the circumstances of the plot kept them apart.THE STORY: Wolf shifter Rae Lyall is the chosen Guardian (the shifter who can send shifters to "heaven" at their death). Her choosing by the Goddess causes unrest because a female has never been chosen from that position. Now subject to suspicion and derision, Rae's father sends her to polar bear shifter and healer Zander Moncrieff for protection and training. Zander is Goddess touched himself and understands the challenges of the "gift".There is a reluctant attraction between the two but the threats that surround them keep Rae and Zander focused on working together while falling for one another.OPINION: I'm a big fan of Ashley's shifter series. The series has a lot to say about issues of the day in an entertaining fashion. I also enjoy how the Shifters have managed to retain their own traditions and identity despite the onerous restrictions placed upon them by humans.In this book, Zander is a free spirit. Seen as "crazy" by many, Zander suffers with his gift of healing. Not only does he suffer by healing, he also knows that he cannot help everyone. By making himself inaccessible, he limits the demands on his gift. Despite his behavior, Zander cares tremendously about others.Rae is an orphan wolf shifter adopted by felines. She loves her family but still feels the loneliness of being different. Her choosing as Guardian further separates her from others. She is strong and mouthy and just amazing although she is young and is still developing herself.The interaction between Rae and Zander is funny and spicy and sometimes adorable. The two banter and argue and have some hot scenes together. They both have a core of not belonging that unites them. Their gifts have separated them from others and this allows for true understanding between them.The book is a roller coaster with lots of action with different storylines merging and weaving together in sometimes unexpected ways. The resolution of the plot is surprising and yet completely in line with the story. I loved how things came together. Appearances by characters both new and old (Tiger!) never lets the reader forget that there is a larger world and story that these characters are a part of.I love learning about new types of shifters and I look forward to their stories being told as well.WORTH MENTIONING: For readers of the series there are some reveals as to what the Fae are up to (with apparently some human allies).CONNECTED BOOKS: GUARDIAN'S MATE is the ninth book in the Shifters Unbound series. This book can be read as a standalone although there may be some learning curve as to the shifter world that this book resides in.STAR RATING: I give this book 4 stars.

Zander never wanted a mate, the man was eccentric, very loyal and a role model to an orphan polar bear in Austin Shiftertown....Little Olaf.Rae Lyall's adoptive father, Eoin was a feline shifter, leader of Montana Shiftertown. The previous Guardian of the Western Montana Shiftertown was Daragh whom we met in BAD WOLF. The late Guardian was killed by humans, his soul and sword were rescued by Broderick McNaughton. The time for the Goddess to choose a new Guardian had arrived, all the young men of the Montana Shiftertown were required to attend.Rae was Lupine, a black wolf, she looked up to her father. The day of the ceremony for the new Guardian, she held the sword because the others were afraid to hold it. When the Goddess made her choice, everyone was left in a state of shock even the new Guardian. Turned out Rae had been chosen by the Goddess.Zander was asked by Kendrick Shaughnessy (Guardian of the un-Collared Shifters) to look after Rae and to train her. The crazy bear was not too happy at the turns of event, but he could never deny Kendrick anything. The first encounter between Zander and Rae was very eye opening.Rae was scared being the new Guardian and it was understandable, she was the first female Guardian and that didn't sit well with some of the shifters. Her life was in danger so her father made sure she was protected.As Rae and Zander spend more time together, they both realized that they had a lot in common. There was a deep connection between them. As they tried to fight the atttaction that was growing, the Goddess had other plans for her chosen children.Rae's first case as a Guardian went smoothly, having Zander there with her was a bonus. Sure they were both emotionally drained after which was understandable. They found themselves with two new companions after a night at the local turned a little chaotic.The companions (outlaws) formed an unique and unconventional pack, Zander (Healer), Rae (Guardian), Piotr (trustworthy human) and Ezra (Lupine). They were facing lots of obstacles but they had each other's six (backs).Amidst all the chaos Zander found what he never knew he was looking for, his ONE true love. His mate who was none other than Rae. Being the adventurous man that was Zander couldn't help but admire the Goddess work. Rae was shocked/thrilled when she realized as well that Zander was her fated mate.The way Zander and Rae fit perfectly was a delightful thing to see, they were in sync with each other's feelings. The Goddess didn't go wrong when she put those two together.GUARDIAN'S MATE was outstanding, it had humor, adventure, heartache, suspense and passion. The story was well paced, the dynamic between Rae and Zander was beautifully crafted. Jennifer Ashley did an incredible job.P. S. Rae finding out where she came from as always been on her mind so to get those answers was beautiful. Zander's Little Wolf was as badass as he was.Looking forward to RED WOLF!!!

This is book 9 in the Shifters Unbound series & in my opinion should not be read as a standalone book.it clearly reads as a continuation novel & the characters are already established in the series,especially the hero Zander who's previous encounters give his character more depth.I enjoyed this installment in the series it had some great new secondary characters in it. My only niggles came mostly from the pace of the book.there were a few times when not a lot seemed to happen & then other parts that came about that seemed a bit rushed.i also feel that some of Zanders dry comments & sarcasm seemed to be missing.Overall a good installment to the series, which has clearly set a main story arc for furure installmentsSeries order:0.5. The Shifters Unbound series just keeps getting bigger and better. In this book we meet again Zander (don't you just love that big-ass bear) and Rae, a young black wolf who is also goddess touched. The goddess has chosen Rae to be the next guardian of the Montana shifters, only problem - Rae is female, young and in need of help.This book is a real action packed adventure moving from Alaska to Montana and back. Many characters from previous books play a part and we are also introduced to some ones. The love between Zander and Rae is a joy to read. There are many mystical and magical 'happenings' throughout. The world of the shifters is not safe though the evil fae want war.Guardian's Mate is a really interesting and absorbing read. The plot is full of danger, passion and hot sensuality.

I love Ms J Ashley shifters , they are strong , Alfa and funny , I can't get enough of them and boy Zander is perfect. Interesting book on the shifters unbound series , we know now that they have vampires and other kind of shifters besides wolf , feline and bear, and the war is coming. Really like this book , the characters well developed and so charismatic that you can't stop feeling that they real .

Awesome book, uttley fantastic read. Couldn't stop wanting to know what happening next. I'm so happy Zander found someone to love and Rae also found happiness. Onto the next book.

Another fantastic faced paced story with Zander the big crazy polar bear shifter, Rae a beautiful black wolf who was adopted by Eoin who was the shifter towns leader...With a fantastic twist that was just brilliant..Happy reading.

Another fantastic story in the Shifters Unbound series!! They just get better and better, can't wait for the next one to come out.

Ich mag diese Serie sehr, auch wenn es unter "seichte" Literatur fällt. Ich hab die Bücher zum Teil nicht in der richtigen Reihenfolge gelesen, das macht aber gar nichts, die Handlung ist immer gut verständlich. Manche Teile sind flüssiger und spannender geschrieben, andere dienen einfach der Erweiterung des Shifters Unbound Kosmos.Je nachdem, wie flüssig und unterhaltend ein Teil war, verteile ich 3-5 Sterne.Ich kann diese Serie als luftige Sommer-/ Urlaubslektüre nur empfehlen!

I absolutely LOVED this one, it is definitely on par with Tigers story and now an equal favourite!!I don't want to give a big in-depth review as I really don't want to spoil any part of if for you!!!Love both the H and h, they were perfect for each other and their romance was action packed and humorous!This author has really let herself shine with this one, it had all the elements I love about her books all together to make a truly fantastic novel and a wonderful addition to the series.Get yourself a copy today, you wont regret it.

This is a great series and would definitely recommend reading. This was a great story with lots of action and love. Love Zander and rae.

First book I have read in the series, loved it , I am now going back to start the series from the beginning. Definitely a five star series.
