Technics SL-100C Direct Drive Turntable System, Vinyl Player, AT-VM95C Cartridge, Auto Lifter, 3 Speed, Dust Cover, PHONO Cable, Black

I bought this to replace a Denon DP-300F which, despite a cartridge upgrade (AT-VM95ML) was very underwhelming to listen to compared to the other sources in my Hi-Fi (CD player/streamer/cassette). This is the turntable I should have bought in the first place. Connected to the in-built phono stage on a Rega Elicit-R amplifier, it is definitely one of the best value components I've bought. I switched out the supplied AT-VM95C stylus for the AT-VM95ML stylus on the previous record player - very easy to do without removing the cartidges themselves. The tonality, detail retrieval and sound stage are all very good. It is definitely close, if not on par with the other sources in my system. The turntable took about 30 minutes to unpack and assemble - taking care to do it well. I found the IEC 14 connector, being recessed and angled underneath the deck a bit fidly to locate once the turntable was positioned on my rack. The same, but to a lesser degree, with the RCA phono sockets and the ground cable connection. Whilst not as heavy as some of the legendary Technics turntables that came prior to and inspired this turntable, at ~10kg it still has a good heft to it. The plynth has a good solid feel and a good look to it. The adjustable feet for levelling the turntable are a very welcome feature. Some reviews raised concerns about the cueing lever, with some people having highlighted it's tendancy to drop the tone arm/stylus abruptly? Whilst the cueing lever is plastic and certainly not overly heavy duty, the stylus drop is certainly well damped and at least on my example, works well. The motor starts and stops quickly. The controls seem on par with most quality modern audio equipment. Overall, I'm very happy with both build quality and sound quality given the price paid. For anyone who is returning to or getting into vinyl records, I don't think you can go wrong with the Technics SL-100C coupled with a half decent moving-magnet cartridge. Note the SL-100C is very similar to the SL-1500C, but it lacks the in-built phono stage and instead of coming with the Ortofon 2M Red cartridge, it comes with the Audio Technica AT-VM95C cartridge.

Good turntable ,stable speed, easy setup. I changed the whole cartridge not just stylus to the At95sh. Listening thru Cambridge audio evo150se on Focal Stellia headphones sound is excellent. Surface noise low. Few clicks and pops on 30 year old vinyl but you would expect that. A bargain at the £637 price. Its price is higher now. Grab one whilst you can if you’re in the market for a turntable. Cueing lever a bit flimsy but auto lift works well and all alignments on my sample were correct. Most highly recommended 9/10

Not sure why I have been asked to rate this item for 'sheerness' and 'accuracy'? Weird. Anyway, what you get here for your money is a good looking, well built and great sounding turntable. This lower cost (£100) version of the 1500C is clearly designed for those who prefer a separate phono preamp and to choose their own cartridge/ stylus. Don't get me wrong, the Conical sounds perfectly fine (and is a downright bargain at £30) however invest in the the ML stylus (two click upgrade) and you'll start to see what this turntable is capable of. Speed is incredibly stable and it runs whisper quiet. I already much prefer Direct Drive less fussy turntables and this is what you get here. The only complaint I would have is that in my opinion it's not £450 better than the Audio Technica AT-LP5X which has a slightly better stylus and built in phono preamp/ USB function (if that's your type of thing- not mine). However with all premium products you do just get that extra level of enjoyment/ satisfaction from the construction quality and feel of the item. This definitely applies here. Lovely product, maybe just a touch pricey. DO NOT TOUCH THE COUNTERWEIGHT WHILE PLAYING LIKE THE GUY WHO MADE THE VIDEO!

Very nice quality Turntable. Replacement for my Project Carbon Evo. I'm currently running a Ortofon 2M Black and Bronze Cartridge and they sound Fantastic compared to my old TT. Great Bass weight and improved Midrange and Detail. The Soundstage has also got more open. It's a nice Heavy TT and lovely build quality. I was going to go for the SL1500C. But I have my own phono Pre Amp so there didn't seem any point in paying the extra £150 for something I don't need. Great TT🎶

Stock levels on the Technics SL100C always seem to be low and for a few months it has either been out of stock or priced higher than the SL1500C (basically the same but wirh an in-built pre amp). So when on Prime Day I saw it back in stock reduced back to the original retail price I bought one. However, it came with 2 mains leads neither of which had a UK plug. I could have bought an adapter or a new power lead but when forking out £799 that's not the point. Amazon didn't have an answer and eventually insisted a return be triggered. I refused that and called Technics direct who were far more helpful and after providing proof of purchase sent a UK mains lead. So loses a star purely based on Amazon's lack of help / advice in what was their error as the deck wasn't described as eu mains only. The turntable is pretty easy to set up, the only real element is setting the tone arm balance and weight. It's worth watching some youtube videos on that if in doubt but it was fairly quick and painless once I had worked out how to fix and adjust the counter weight (the instructions are a bit basic on that part). It's worth getting a stylus weight gauge to be sure of the tracking weight. I immediately upgraded the stylus to the ATVMN95ML which is a fairly simple job as it uses the same cartridge as the stock stylus. It's simple to operate and from early impressions sounds great with my set up (Audiolab Omnia amp and KEF Q350 speakers) and feels a heavy and solid turntable. It's a fairly heavy deck so needs a solid stand or unit.

Was bekommt man für einen Plattenspieler heutzutage für 850,— Euro im HiFi - Handel? Einen Rega Brettspieler einfachster Bauart, wo man den Riemen umlegen muss um, die Geschwindigkeit zu ändern und einem schwachbrüstigen Motor, der fast stehenbleibt, wenn man vor dem Abspielen mit einer Plattenbürste die Schallplatte vom Staub befreit. Und ähnliches Gerät von diversen Marken. Einen ernsthaften Plattenspieler für Vinylhörer mit Anspruch habe ich in dieser Preisklasse lange nicht gesehen. Seit einiger Zeit habe ich mit dem Technics SL1300G geliebäugelt - der immerhin 3000 Flocken kosten soll. Dafür bekommt man schon einen amtlichen Bohrturm von diversen High-End Herstellern. In der Preisklasse besitze ich bereits eine Gerät. Da ich seit Jahren mit eher preiswerten Tonabnehmern Musik höre, müsste ich eigentlich gar nicht so hoch ins Regal greifen - aber als Qualitätsfetischist stehe ich nun mal auf gut gemachte Geräte. Dennoch hat mich der SL 100c neugierig gemacht - was kann so ein Gerät für deutlich unter 1000,-- Euro - also bestellt. Ehrlich gesagt, habe ich wenig erwartet - geistern doch Berichte von eiernden Plattentellern und billigsten Tonarmliften durchs Netz. Haptik und Verarbeitung haben mich positiv überrascht - sogar regelrecht begeistert. Das Gerät wiegt satte 10 KG. Die Oberflächliche ist aus Metall und hochwertig verarbeitet. Bei meinem Gerät ist der Plattenteller absolut plant und dreht sich völlig geräuschlos - die Sollgeschwindigkeit wird ein einem Bruchteil einer Sekunde erreicht. Der Tonarm aus Aluminium macht ebenfalls einen sehr guten Eindruck - die Lager sind leichtgängig ohne Lagerspiel. System und Headshell sitzen fest und ohne Spiel an dem Arm. Ja, bei einem Gerät der High-End-Klasse wird der Tonarmlift sanfter abzusenken sein - aber es ist überhaupt kein Problem das System sanft aufzusetzen - wäre es nicht schon häufig thematisiert worden, hätte ich der Funktion des Tonarmliftes keinerlei Beachtung geschenkt. Der Tonarm kann ohne Werkzeug oder Unterlegscheiben millimetergenau in der Höhe eingestellt werden - davon träumen Besitzer eines vielfach teureren Rega P8 oder P10 nur. Es gibt in der BDA sogar eine Tabelle, welche Einstellung bei welcher Tonabnehmerhöhe vorgenommen werden muss - eine langwierige Justage und Überprüfung ob der Tonarm in Waage ist, fällt weg. Genau so einfach ist die Tonabnehmermontage. Für kleines Geld (um die 20 Euro inkl. Versand) kann man sich die Technics Einstellehre besorgen (die liegt bei den teuren Modellen gratis bei). Eine umständliche Justierung per Schablone entfällt somit ebenfalls. Dank abnehmbaren Headshell kann man einmal installierte Tonabnehmer dann in Sekundenschnelle per Bajonettverschluss tauschen. Wer sich für ein Ortofon Concorde System entscheidet, muss sich um die Justage gar keinen Kopf machen - das System wird einfach aufgesteckt - fertig. Warum gerade Hersteller von Plattenspielern der gehobenen Preisklasse Ihre Kunden mit Justage von Tonarm und Tonabnehmer in den Wahnsinn treiben, ist mir ein Rätsel (Wer sich mal mit den unterschiedlichen Geometrien und anderen Parametern für die Justage von Tonabnehmern beschäftigt hat, weiß wovon ich Rede) . Die ebenfalls oft kritisierten Bedientasten (sind nicht aus Metall) lassen sich gut und sauber schalten da wackelt nichts und fühlt sich auch nicht billig an. Man kann natürlich nicht die gleichen Bedienelemente der G- Klasse erwarten - die Geräte kosten schließlich 3.000,— bis 4.000,— Euro. Da sollte man die Kirche im Dorf lassen. Aber jetzt das Wichtigste - der Klang: Mit dem beigefügten Einsteigersystem schon überraschend gut. Wer sich für das System die bessere ML Nadel besorgt oder zu einem höherwertigerem System greift, wird eine wahre Überraschung erleben. Das Gerät gibt sich gegenüber deutlich teureren Laufwerken keine Blöße. Wenn es wirklich einen Punkt gibt, den man bemängeln kann, dann die etwas ruppige automatische Tonarmanhebung. Allerdings lässt sich sogar eine Endabschaltung aktivieren, was in der BDA nicht erwähnt wird. Dafür die Tonarmanhebung hinten am Gerät ausschalten / 33 und 45 Taste gleichzeitig gedrückt halten und die Tonarmanhebung wieder einschalten. Das Gerät schaltet auch dann nach ca. 20 Min automatisch ab, wenn es nicht bedient wird. Preis- Leistung ist meiner Meinung nach sensationell. Wer nicht ganz in high-endigen Sphären schwebt, mit einem guten Plattenspieler toll Musikhören möchte und auf Einstellorgien verzichten möchte, bekommt ein richtig gutes Gerät. Für Tonabnehmer unter 1.000,-- Euro wird man nichts vermissen. Tipp: Wer ein gutes und preiswertes System sucht, sollte sich unbedingt die Ortofon Concorde R 10 - 40 anhören.

Whoa a solid turntable from Technics here. I already have a very nice external phono preamp so I found this model the perfect fit for my needs. The auto lift and undocumented auto shut of are both nice features for when getting distracted so that the ring grove and needle is not worn unnecessarily. Sure I do miss the auto return from my previous turntable but I guess the trade off is worth it. Mine did however arrive with a bent cantilever but Amazon quickly issued a gift card for replacing the needle. The only way I can think got bent is the guy who mounted it at the factory did it or quality control completely failed on this one little part. So the original headshell and cartridge has not been tested yet. I bought the black conical stylus as replacement but it has a very long delivery date. Happily I have a different headshell with an Ortofon OM cartridge on it so that I can at least use the turntable.
