Is the pad material similar to the material of the (mr.clean's) magic erasers? or entirely different.

Entirely different. It has big holes in the sponge that do not grab all the algae off the glass. I did not like this scraper, too big and awkward to work properly, for me. I use a piece of Magic Eraser instead of this.

How dobes mthe pad attach? can i replace the pad with a different kind, like a (mr. clean) magic eraser?

The pad is glued on so you wouldn’t be able to switch out the pad.

Does the algae you scrape off fall back into the tank?

Hello! It does depend on the type of algae that is in the aquarium. Some algae may stick to the scrubber, some may fall back into the tank. We recommend to siphon the aquarium after scrubbing full complete maintenance.
