Phenomenal read, man of the future
The book is lengthy but its well worth the read.David offers a new perspective on aging and reveals that more is malleable than inevitable when it comes to the topic. Its still debatable whether he's correct in characterising aging as a disease or whether aging is problematic as a precursor to certain diseases, making the human body more susceptible to them. Either way, he makes a compelling and convincing argument to directly tackle aging in order to reduce the incidences of crippling diseases and conditions later in life. Finally, the book is good in drawing boundaries and explaining what has been shown and what is unknown and a stretch too far to conclude. This helps distinguish it from debunked theories, but puts it ahead of conventional wisdom which isn't doing the human healthspan any favours.

Absolute page turner to start off, but trails off a bit
I really enjoyed reading this book. It filled me with hope, and a lot of it seemed to be backed by some form of evidence. When describing it to a lot of friends and work colleagues, I was surprised to find how many immediately dismissed it as rubbish without having read it, as it does make some pretty bold claims.Basically, it puts forwards a disease model of aging. This is a controversial and certainly a lot of people would not agree with it, but the evidence is reviewed in a scientific manner which I found quite compelling. However, I would say the narrative goes considerably beyond the evidence, and states things as fact which are yet to be established. The problem is that as yet there are no examples of individuals adding huge amounts of years to their lives, and it will take a long time to generate the kind of evidence required for that.So although I enjoyed this book immensely, and the author is a published scientist rather than a journalist (or an influencer), I am deducting one star from the rating because I do not think we quite have the evidence base to back up some of the claims made. I also found the book trailed off badly as it went on, where the author started speculating about the social and political impact of increased life spans which of course may not happen. No problem with a little bit of this, but it takes up most of the second half of the book, which was far too much and I found it a bit of a slog to get to the end. Like one of the other reviewers, I will most likely re-read the first half, but definitely not the second.

Gold
What a precious gift we are offered in this book, a chance at gaining more time, in good health, to grow and become wiser and enjoy this life more and more. Written in such an accessible way, with good wit, humour, and love, the book is an easy and enjoyable read. I am recommending to all. My dad and I have both begun the regimen already. Thank you, Dr Sinclair!

A big hope to longevity
This book opened my eyes to longevity and gave me hope. everything written is scientific and evidence-based. Finally, I am looking at following David Sinclair's diet and daily routine. I have already started fasting in between days eating what I needed to survive, and taking some vitamins. I am still searching about resveratrol as there is confusion in the literature on this topic. Overall one of the best books. I will recommend people reading it.

Great book put into layman’s terms
It’s been a good 9 months or there around, since I have a read this book and listened to the author on the Joe Rogan podcast.I thought it was a brilliant book, and even as a 23 year old it has played an influence on my behaviour by changing certain things about my lifestyle. It could be placebo, but I feel since I have changed my behaviours, I have a lot more energy in day to day tasks and generally a lot sharper mentally and physically.I don’t often keep hold of books but this one I have, and will most likely read it again, especially in the future when I’m slightly older and perhaps have a different perspective on life.Whilst the book is scientifically written, it is simply written into layman’s term for the simple folk like me to understand.David makes great connections for both sides of the argument of extending lifespan, including personal conversations he has with his son and his father. The only downfall I’d say is, I struggled at the start of the book and was overwhelmed with understanding cells but as mentioned, it’s put into layman terms and even includes diagrams - I took a short break from the book and listened to the podcast a couple of times and in the end, I feel like this book has improved my understanding of the body better and made me think more about the fuel I put in to me.
