I purchased this mechanical timer for our living room lamps because while I enjoy the light the lamps provide, I almost never turn them on because I usually can't be bothered or forget about them. Having them on a timer means we get to enjoy how they brighten out living room every evening. This timer was an attractive option because it was made by a reputable company (something to keep in mind when dealing with electrical switches), it had two outlets to match our two lamps, and it was inexpensive since it was just a mechanical timer. The mechanical aspect of the timer ended up being the most irritating part of the timer though, and the reason for the 4 star review. Setting the timer up wasn't too difficult, but what was difficult was getting the lights to turn on at exactly 5PM and off at exactly 10PM. I tried numerous times but the lights would always turn on or off a few minutes before or after what I wanted. The mechanical timer also seems to cause some variability in when they turn on and off each day, and the time seems to creep later each day, as if the timer is running a bit slow. Also, when daylight savings started, the timer would now run from 6PM to 11PM. It's something that might not bother most people, but my OCD gets irritated when the light turns on at 5:04 and off at 9:58. I might replace the timer with a digital one that will ensure the lights turn on and off at the exact same time everyday.
