Successful Serging: From Setup to Simple and Specialty Stitches

Actually you can be very successful with this book
I just received this book and Beth supplies a wealth of information that I didn't even receive when I took my classes from my dealer for my particular serger, which is a 4 thread unit. She covers everything from how the serger works, to set up, the different type of feet you can use and what can be achieved. And so much other valuable information on how to get the most out of these sometimes intimidating machines. The chapters are broken down and takes you step by step that doing inside curves, corners and many other seemingly difficult seams become relatively easy in no time with practice. It's amazing what can be done by a serger, once you learn the correct way to do it. I feel very confident I can finally master some of the techniques that were glossed over in my class, with this book.I like that this book also covers a good amount of information on the coverstitch, someday I hope to own a machine that can do just that. There is certainly no shortage of information in this book, well written with great diagrams and pictures and put in a very logical order for skill building.Through this book I can see where it is very possible to get the most out my machine and cut my sewing time down in half in many cases. You can't go wrong with this book and if you are looking for just one book to get you acquainted with your machine and master it, no matter how many threads it takes or who it's manufactured by, this is definitely the book for you.

Successful Serging: From Setup to Simple and...
I found this to be an excellent book. First, it is spiral bound which makes it easy to use as you learn. It explains in specific detail with illustrations that explain how the Serger works and how to work with it successfully. It explains the capabilities to perform various tasks like shirring, decorative stitches, and the basic over lock stitches. I like how the author focused on the various techniques and stitches rather than a book of projects which I may or may not be interested in. It is clearly written and illustrated, a great book for a beginner as well as a more advanced seamstress.

Good for beginners
This is a really useful book if you're new to serging and want to get more comfortable with your machine. It has some great hints... the 'stitch length' sidebar is worth the price of the book. Once I got comfortable with my machine, I found Pati Palmer's "sewing with sergers" to be more useful.

Great little book to have
I'm a beginner sewer and a good friend of mine had come over one night to help me learn some handy little tricks with my machine. I wanted to make a skirt and she had offered to bring her serger for me to try. I fell in love with the process and ended up purchasing a serger so I could work on clothes for my kids. I didn't want to just rush into purchasing the serger though, so I found this book and really loved all the information it provided. I wanted to know what I was going to get myself into and so I highly recommend this book for anyone that's wondering exactly what sergers are/do as well as people who already have a serger but aren't familiar with all of the techniques and features they offer. Highly recommend this book!

Best serger how to I bought
This is the best book on using a serger I have. Wouldn’t recommend any of the others I’ve bought. Has pictures that illustrate with each thread a different color. Pictures of how to serge to get a certain hem. And the insistence that you must try on scraps before your project because each fabric weight needs its own adjustment. And how to troubleshoot.

Guide for beginners
This is an attractive book with helpful spiral binding, especially helpful for beginners. I bought it to enhance my new serger, which joins my 25-year-old serger. It does not give me the information I hoped to find, but might be great for a beginner. Although I appreciate good book design and informed use of white space, there is a lot of wasted space in this book. My sewing space is limited and the large format of the book and purely decorative color photos are unnecessary and add to its cost and weight.

Great book for understanding sergers
Bought this book a week after I bought my serger. This book covers anything and everything you need to know for a beginner like me. The book has really great detailed information and pictures. This book is well put together, easy to understand and takes the guesswork out of sergers. I looked in the local " craft" stores and couldn't find anything comparable. So easy to understand! !! Fast shipping was wrapped well in cardboard. Very pleased with purchase

Clear, concise and directed to new serger users.
Highly recommend this book for new serger users. I would have liked some of the illustrations to be clearer, perhaps simplified but that may be because I am really a novice. The tips are useful and the suggestions offered for various fabrics were useful. Layout designed to be able to use as a reference with quick access to info.
