Consigliatissimo

I can't find fault with the Oxford Reading Tree. My 7 year old absolutely loves reading these books. We moved to Norway before my youngest son learnt to read and I'm attempting to bring his English reading skills up to scratch. We read together every night and this is no forced chore as my son is really taken by these books. I think what makes these books so good are the pedagogic framework; the way that new words are introduced and reinforced by repetition and the careful and seamless use of conjugation. The artwork is lovely and the characters are developed as each new stage is passed. There is enough detail in the illustrations to support the learning process and details like the small pair of spectacles that appear hidden somewhere in the book help to secure interest in exploring the illustrations. One last point is that the books don't seem to age. Some were originally published 20+ years ago but there is very little to age them. Occasionally a reference to 'ancient' technology such as camera film crops up. This doesn't however detract from the narrative and it's fun trying to explain what film was (is) and what it was used for to a generation that only knows digital.
