This is an awesome slicer!
Safety tip..USE THE LITTLE HAND PROTECTOR! I didn't. I thought I was being super careful..but it slices soo smoothly, I was unaware that the potato wasn't slicing perfectly straight across..it had gone down a little more on one side. I lost a hunk of meat off my thumb! Totally my own stupid fault..but, yea. Itll even slice tomatoes if you wiggle them thru the blade instead of pushing. Its so much fun to cut vegies with this slicer! Another tip..read the directions! I didn't, so put the container part on the bottom shelf of my dishwasher where it promptly cracked. My fault again:/ It has a fine adjustment for the thickness of the slices. Ever eat home made tater chips? YUM! Don't make your oil too hot, or they'll brown before theyre cooked in the center. A fun kitchen gadget, would make a great gift!

Easiest to use for arthritic hands
I no longer have full strength in my arms and hands so was searching for an easier way to cut, shred or slice veggies. I’ve used many choppers and mandolins and all required a heavy push or back and forth actions on my hands to do the job. It was painful so this was my last attempt to buy a mandolin. This is so very easy to use! It’s very sturdy and I’m not worried the veggies or top will slide off. The blades are secure enough that there’s little chance of slicing my finger instead of a potato. The blade attachments fit into the bottom tray making easy storage. It’s dishwasher safe but it’s so lightweight I hand wash. Only heavy use of hands is getting the veggie holder on tightly, sure it’s just me. The bottom cup is large and I recently sliced 8 russets without having to empty it. If you have trouble with strength or arthritic hands/fingers, this will be easy for you to use.

Solid Slicer
It does a great job on anything that is solid vegetable or fruit. The blades on them are also very sharp as well, sliced my fingers a couple of times while drying them with two layers of dish towel. It does have a hard time with stuff that has more juices in it like bell pepper, tomatoes, or onions(though that's mostly cause the onions fall apart while slicing). The interchangeable blades do lock into place, but I have noticed it's easy for food to get lodged where the locking system is while changing out blades. Also the plastic container is a bit small at times if you are making a big meal with lots of sliced stuff.

This slicer/grater is wonderful. I made au gratin potatoes the other night ...
I have never used a mandoline before and what a mistake after all these years. This slicer/grater is wonderful. I made au gratin potatoes the other night and had a 5lb bag of potatoes I had to slice. I began and at first wondered if it was slicing the potato. I looked in the storage bin and there were several slices. It was so smooth and easy to use. Had to start the potato holding it by hand and then went to the holder that comes with it. I couldn't believe it took no time to cut the entire bag of potatoes and each slice was the same thickness (which is adjustable). I think I will be giving this as a Christmas gift to a few people I know.

Good for the money it cost
I wish it was larger, I had one in the past which was about 25% larger, this one is just large enough to use on small and medium vegetables, to small for a big beef stake Tomato, or bigger Idaho potatoes', forget corn on the cob unless you cut them into pieces first, my comments are directed to cutting, not grating, grating might be alright.

WASTE OF MONEY
UPDATE 16 ZELL was honorable and Item Refund: $19.99 so I will add one starThis mandolin slicer is not only falsely advertised but it is a danger to fingers and fingernailsTo start the mandolin is hard to hold and even though the container does hold what is cut the base slips on all surfaces. As for the thickness settings they all are the same thickness. The safety hat does not always hold onto the vegetable you are slicing and then only if you cut it down to the size of the hat. If you do get the safety hat to grip what you are slicing it will destroy at least 1/4 of it so you will have to throw it awayAS FOR THE BLADESThe strait slicer is OK unless you want to slice a whole onion or tomato then it is not wide enough. The julienne slicer is far too thin and with the hat the slices are too shortThe large grater only succeeds to make mush of whatever you are slicingI am afraid to use the small grater. With the instability of the whole mandolin I am afraid for my fingersI have already lost a nail and had to throw away grated potatoes

Great tool with a few quirks.
Love this little device. Wish the blades/inserts had a wider area of use. Very easy to change the blades, my biggest complaint is it moves to easy. Those 2 tiny grips on the bottom are not sufficient, put some bubble liner or dyscum under it or it moves. If your not paying attention the top can come off while working so just watch it their guard piece is pretty useless. That tiny round section with pegs is not sufficient to hold anything unless it fits in there exactly and it only goes up about 1.5 “ so I tend to just hold my item until I get to the end then then I try it but usually I end up with a big piece left.

Not easy to use for first timer
I thought this will make chopping of veggies easier and faster than using knife so I bought this. Unfortunately, I cut my finger 2x the first time I use it. One does need glove to use this. It’s indeed very sharp but I find it difficult to use that I made a lot of mess every time especially when using the julienne blade for carrot, or zesting lemon ... because i had to push them hard so they won’t slide. But this is my very first mandolin so maybe I need more practice. I’m not liking it for now.
