Beta Alanine is used to help your body produce carnosine. In order to saturate your muscle with carnosine you need 4-6g daily similar to creatine, its chemistry. The problem is that unlike creatine the side tingly sensation can be severe if you don't already have a good level of it in your system and if you try to load up 5 right away it can feel like you're having a bad trip. It best to break it up into 3 or 4 doses throughout the day rather than all at once which can be inconvenient. Carnosine turnover is low, slower than creatine which drops about 1% per day, so it can take months for it to drop even without supplementation. It something that build up in your body not something you need 30 minutes before a workout. The research on Beta alanine is very clear it super effective but only for very specific anaerobic activities. Think Sprinting rather than powerlifting or long-distance running. Activity that last more than 1 minute. It's unlikely to help you go from 5->6 reps or 8->9 reps, but you can sprint 20% longer, mostly likely good for sport where short burst are needed, and maybe marginally helps with longer cardio stuff. Carnosine acts as a buffer for lactic acid buildup and "reduces the burn" so it might come too late normal for strength exercises but maybe useful for high rep sets. It's not a clearcut benefit like creatine for general exercise but where it good it quite dramatic. Might be good for Calisthenics or Nordic 4x4 but have an activity or exercise in mind to see a benefit from Beta Alanine. However, it's generally safe in adults and well tolerated in the long term so do whatever you want with this information.

I have been very satisfied with other products from BulkSupplements, and have been a customer since 2016. I was looking forward to using this product to enhance the last six weeks of training before my marathon. Unfortunately I didn't even think about ingesting the product due to the strong ammonia odor. I admit that I read some of the reviews that said the same thing about the smell, but I thought they just received a bad batch, but mine has the nasty ammonia smell too. You can't miss it because it is STRONG! For reference the lot number is 2316208 with an expiration date of Aug. 31, 2025. I searched through other reviews and found another lot number that is totally different, so obviously there are multiple lots with the same ammonia smell, but there are others with no smell. Note that the tingling feeling that some reviewers report is due to taking too high a dose. Do your research people before ingesting anything, be it a prescribed medication or a supplement. BUT... this review is about the ammonia smell not the tingling. I did receive a response from the Bulk Supplements customer service stating that the smell is expected, and they included a Certificate of Authenticity (COA), but it was not from the lot I received. I have reach out for a relevant COA. This was their response about the ammonia odor "Beta-Alanine is known for having a pungent aroma as it is an amino acid, and this is within normal characteristics. Please keep in mind, we do not add additives or fillers in our products to mask the natural taste and smell of the product." Again, I have never had an issue with Bulk Supplements, so due to my and maybe others' assumptions about the smell I am giving the rating of 4 stars. I cannot find any information about what this product should or should not smell like. If I find out anything new I will update.

Its great, no bad taste. Only problems are the bag keeps falling so may make some spills and wish it had a serving scoop like other brands.

I workout often after work, and am trying to gain strength, so I started looking in to pre-workout supplements to give me energy after a long day. The downside with most store bought supplements is that they come with so many fillers, and they ALL have SO MUCH caffeine (which I cannot take after like noon if I want to sleep well). By buying each component separately from bulk supplements, I can design my own pre-workout mix without the caffeine and without any additives. After extensive research (and no, I am not a professional, so I'm not advocating the below unless it worked for you, do your own research!) here is the list of ingredients I use: >Beet Root Powder: Energy, boost endurance and increase strength, replaced caffeine for me -- it definitely has a strong beet taste, but I kind of like that it offsets the lack of taste of the other ingredients. Sometimes I throw in coconut sugar for sweetness to offset the strength of the beet. >Beta Alanine: Research shows it helps fight muscle fatigue and increases muscle endurance in high-intensity exercise. >Creatine Monohydrate: Most sports scientists consider creatine to be the number one supplement for increasing strength and power. >L-Citrulline: Citrulline increases blood flow to body tissues. Research shows that for exercise, this may help supply your muscles with the oxygen and nutrients they need and stimulates muscle endurance & reduces muscle soreness >BCAAs: To aid in recovery. Often taken after workouts, but does have similar benefits when take in pre-workouts. >Theanine: Boost alertness and reaction time, it also has a calming effect, so great for afternoon/night workouts. Also found to go great when combined with the caffeine in pre-workouts. I mix all ingredients into a large twist top jar, because adding a little bit from all the bags every day would be tedious! Also because you're working with powder, the zip-lock is annoying, so would not be ideal if opening everyday.
