Being legally blind I need very large print to read anything. I'd bought quite a few magnifying glasses but none helped much. Looking at what Amazon had to offer I bought two of these, one for the living room, one for my office. I loved them so much I gave one to my son who admired it and I ordered myself a new one that's the new very large size. I like, too, but it's a bit heavier than the first, which is my favorite. I can read almost anything with them, so I'm a hug huge fan I may end up with one in every room. ;)Lee Marie Schnebly, Tucson, AZ

I like it: makes reading small print much easier due to its large size, BUT heavy and very large (both of which aid in keeping the reading material open and the dome unmoving on the page.) Of course it could be said that "heavy" and "very large" are obvious if I had stopped to think about a hunk of glass that is of the dimension stated. I was going to give it two stars but realistically it does and is what is described (my fault for ignoring these two negative points.)

Start off with the good. This magnifying dome is actually glass as indicated, unlike the one I returned where the ad claimed to be glass but was clearly acrylic. The dome also magnifies to an expected functional degree and the glass is mostly crystal clear.And now for the awful. As has been my normal experience with Amazon fulfilled products as of late, the item is packaged in a too large box with no filler material. Consequently the product and its manufacturer packaging is damaged. The manufacturers box was completely falling apart and was held together with clear packing tape. The magnifying dome itself has a tiny nick in its surface. It's small, however, it's purchased new and should be totally clean. Also, take a look at the image of the marketplace sellers packaging as advertised and then compare it to what I received. Their image presents an item and packaging that is giftable. Now compare that to the sad packaging as it arrived. Certainly not giftable, even if Amazon's packaging/shipping process hadn't completely destroyed it.I'm not returning the dome because it functional for personal use and actually glass this time, and I'm tired of dealing with Amazon's return process. I'm also growing tired of their don't give a damn packaging, shipping and lack of oversight of deceptive seller claims. It seems to me that Amazon is in crisis and their customers are burdened with the results.Amazon, please, please, please pull it together. Quality over speed any day.

Its ok. It will magnify almost 2x what its placed on. Since the sides are clear to allow light there are no dark areas. I keep this on my desk and use it instead of my reading glasses when only needing it for a few seconds. I'm giving it a 4 vs 5 stars because I feel for its size the magnification should have been better and the magnification was not advertised in the product description. The beautiful box it came in makes it a nice present as well.

I have had several of the acrylic ones which I use quite often to view plans. I finally reached the point where I bought the real glass one and will never own the acrylic/plastic version again. I love how heavy and clear it is and the fact that it came in a velvet crown royal type bag and a nice gift box. it would be a cool gift and is actually quite functional as a paper weight and a viewing instrument.

This does the job, but it has it's drawbacks. It's heavy, so picking it up is difficult, especially from a flat surface. Mine scratched easily. I only used it on a a few documents and passed it over my desk at work and now it is scratched. The scratches don't prevent its usability, but it's just annoying the I only used it a few times and it's now imperfect, and so soon. It comes in a great box with its own velvet bag, but you can't keep putting it in and to of the bag or even on the bag when you use it regularly. I read small numbers at work and it is great for viewing a big chunk of information at once. It works for sliding over pages too, but that gets old. I might not buy it again, considering the weight and the scratch-ability.

This thing is just old-school COOL! I originally bought it to help my mom magnify pages while reading. It didn't work so well for book reading. However, it is excellent quality for document examination, maps. My mom was happy to give it to my brother, who uses to magnify whatever..... it's just one of those old style devices that is fun to have around. And it is in a lovely gift box.

The rather flimsy box wasn't satin-lined as stated and it took a beating in the shipping envelope, but the magnifying glass was unharmed and is perfect for my needs. I'm very happy with the product.
