Great value
Used for straight razor. Works well, i did soak it overnight before first use, and uses a sand stone to remove any burrs developed in shipping.

Great for blade maintenance!
I got a 1000/6000 as my starter stone when I first began learning about sharpening and I've been pretty happy with that so far. One thing I've learned though is you need the right grit for the right edge.In my case I realize now that is that my 1000/6000 grit stone is a good middle stone, but this 3000/8000 is much better for finishing and the regular type of maintenance I prefer.Let me tell you the 8000 grit puts a beautiful mirror polish on my edge and it's a bit easier than the 6000 to cross that line between a cutting edge and a shaving edge.As for the rest of the kit the bamboo base is nice and sturdy and the bottom should grip your work surface well.I've used better flattening stone but this will definitely work if you don't have one already. And I haven't used the angle guide.Really pleased with everything overall.

Great Blade Sharpening Set for Kitchen / Pocket Knives
A few years ago I started learning to sharpen knives with Whetstones. While it doesn’t take long to understand the logic - just watch a few videos - it takes patience and diligence to really understand how to finely tune a blade. Not all Whetstones are appropriate for sharpening all tools. For instance the Whetstone in this set is 3000/8000 which is designed to hone a blade that is already the proper shape. It would take forever to work notches out of a garden tool with any 3,000 grit stone - that is a task suited for a grinder and then a 400 grit.Honing a blade is a process of slowly working the metal down to a fine edge by wearing it away through rubbing it against a stone. These are called Whetstones as it’s intended to work the blade after the stone has soaked in water which helps the blade’s edge work against the stone. This set contains a silicone mat stand that holds the Whetstone tightly while working as long as it is on a smooth, flat surface.I recommend soaking these stones for no more than 15-20 min in room temperature water as longer than that weakens the glue that holds the 2 halves together. While I have worked with more elaborate sets this one works well for its intended purpose and is solidly built.I would recommend this product for anyone looking for a Whetstone to sharpen kitchen or pocket knives.
