Ennis at his satirac best
Funny, biting well illustrated as well as well written. If you enjoyed " The Pro " you'll enjoy " Jimmy's Bastard's ."

An old-fashioned Doc Martens kick in the face of current issues.
I'm a big Ennis fan, and his take on spy clichés and intersectionnalism is very... Ennis. It's exhilaratingly violent, fakely low-brow and entertainingly politically incorrect, while still having an interesting take on some current issues (racism, gender politics and various cultural absurdities) and well-written characters. The first collected edition of Jimmy's Bastards is not necessarily the best of what Ennis has to offer, but it's still absolutely worth the read!

It's such a good concept you wonder why it hasn't been played with before. Ennis displays something almost resembling restraint at time, which is weird given how he normally handles this kind of material. And Braun on art is solid as always. Looking forward to Vol. 2.

Bond via Ennis
Garth Ennis writing a James Bond story. It's as twisted as you can imagine, and then some.

A sadly wasted concept
"Imagine James Bond's promiscuity came back to haunt him" seems to be the pitch here, and it would be an interesting exploration were it not for Ennis' trademark "the badass can do anything" style of heroics that plagues the book. That the villains are the hero's own illegitimate kids doesn't make them any less expendable -- or the slightest bit sympathetic. This volume does end up in an interesting place, though -- interesting enough to make me order the second volume just to see how it all resolves, but not interesting enough to hope there'll be a third after that.
