American made goodness
Sharp as a razor. Great grind, great handle and grain orientation, great mask. Great value for a US made bushcraft and camping axe. Love it.

Council tool for the win!
In my humble opinion this is one of the best production back packing axes money can buy. Easy to sharpen, great tempering job. Nocely fit for a production axe. Check you head centering though as I have heard that it can sometimes be off a tad. But this is a strong high quality axe for the field. And for the price, you are getting more value for your money than if you spent hundreds on a swedish axe brand. again in mine and many others opinions.

Every man should own a quality hatchet like the Council Tool Wood-Craft Pack Axe
I bought this, I don't know why, I live in an apartment, but I love it. It is so beautiful just to look at. I have often found myself just staring at it. The hammer side and the blade area are hardened steel. There is a little bluing, where it was hardened, which is very impressive looking. I would never use it to hammer anything as I am sure I would split my head open-even with the sheath on. I did sand the handle and apply a few coats of boiled linseed oil because you know. It didn't change the color much. The handle is ever so slightly warped to one side. I could bend it back but I think I'll just leave it be since it is barely noticeable and it is wood after all. I tried it out on a tree that had fallen and it was fine but not much better than my $13 hardware store hatchet, which has a shorter handle, is lighter and, which I had sharpened. I will, of course, take this Wood-Craft Pack Axe camping. I may just go camping so I can take it. Myself, I would have liked a smaller and thicker handle. The experts, however, like a thin longer handle because it is less tiresome to use, they say. The price is very fair considering the competition is almost twice as expensive. All in all, I feel like I should put on a suit of armor, mount a horse and carry this bad boy into medieval battle.

Great axe, not exactly what I wanted but it's no fault of the tool
The axe itself was perfectly fine. Not the sharpest out of the box but a very good working edge. I found the size of the handle was a little too big for my hands when I choked up on it, but that's not a fault of the axe. And it was a little top heavy because of the shorter length. I think I might have preferred the 24" handle with the 2lb head. I was a fan of everything but the size so I ended up buying a Camp Carver with the 22" straight handle and it feels much nicer. I would 100% recommend this one for anyone who wants a nice packable axe. It does everything the reviews say. I think the 24" might be a little more well balanced, though it is a bit less packable. If you are a little smaller like me, the 22" camp carver is a wonderful alternative. (You may have to find it outside of Amazon. They were only selling the 16" version when I was in the market.)

Great Quality Pack Axe
Likes: 1. packaged with care, axe blade with disposable rubber guard and wrapped in plastic to protect the whole head in shipping (leather axe guard wrapped separately too, very wise), also all the contents were double boxed for added caution (as well as including amazon packaging) 2. Loved the flat scandi grind for ease of sharpening and it'll make wood carving a breeze 3. The wood handle came bare without any finish so that I could choose my own method of conditioning (raw linseed is my preferred method) 4. Grain orientation is very much to satisfaction being in line with the blade to minimize the chance of breakage

Good as 24" but not as a sub 20" hatchet.
I really wanted to like this axe. Mine cames well packaged but the edge grind could be better and I notice my handle was stained. This might not be Councils fault and I could have possibly gotten a used / returned one. But to rate the axe only and fairly, I think its a well made axe. Handle grain orientation was about 30 degrees, acceptable for a hatchet. Edge was sharp. Fitment was superb. Not a single gap and the wedge was perfect. What I didn't like about this was the 2lb head on a fairly thin handle. It just felt off balance no matter how I held it and believe the 24" version (which uses the same head) would make it better. I think if the head was 1.75lb or even 1.5, it would balance out much better.

Wow I love this axe! This seller had a great price on the 18 inch model. I changed the handle to a 26 inch and couldn't be happier. Blade came razor sharp 👌
