Gritty with murder mysteries [yes, more than one,] and real scenes from hurricane planning and aftermath. Review: GRISHAM AT HIS RELIABLE SELF - John Grisham takes his readers back to Camino Island, an offshore vacation destination between Jacksonville and Savannah off the east coast of Florida. Now he introduces us to Leo, a bad boy hurricane that seems relentless in its efforts at demolishing the little community. And Leo does bad things, devastating homes and condos, leveling hotels, destroying businesses, flooding streets and roads, shutting down the power, and killing a dozen people. One of the fatalities, well-known author, Nelson Kerr, appears to have been murdered at the height of the storm, his head injuries not consistent with the storm’s furies. Bruce Cable, a friend of Kerr’s and proprietor of Bay Books, wonders if some of the shady doings in Kerr’s stories might have alarmed some criminals in the lucrative rest home business who think they are being outted in the latest of Kerr’s novels yet to be published. The shady characters in the novel, Cable posits, might be real people reluctant to have their enterprise of defrauding elder patients with dementia into living a little longer, and jacking up receipts from insurance companies for already crooked rest homes. Then employees begin blowing the whistle on the homes, claiming everything from illegal medication to rape of helpless patients. Local authorities are overwhelmed by Leo’s destruction and unable to fully investigate the possible healthcare violations. Could the answers be right there on the author’s computer in his manuscript? Cable wants it all stopped and decided to investigate with some of his friends. It’s a breezy book, easy reading, and Grisham does his usual outstanding work keeping the plot line simple, the characters easily defined, and the dialogue easy to follow. It’s a formula that works well for him and sells a lot of books. That’s why you can never go wrong selecting Grisham for your partner whenever you see a new book of his come out. He’s a pleasure to read and a welcome diversion when you want to be entertained by reading a good book. Schuyler T Wallace Author of TIN LIZARD TALES

The man proposes and God disposes.
The latest novel of John Grisham namely,Camino Winds, is an important piece of fiction. The book revolves around the prevalent intensity of the world of Global Crimes. The characters of the novel are living ones and can easily be identified in our daily life The antagonists are the rich businessmen who make millions through fraud, tax evasion and money laundering. The proceeds of crime are put behind a maze of off shore shell companies to avoid tax and money trail, obviously criminals have no morals, as they are motivated by their own goals which are based on cheating and fraud . The character of contract killers - who kill people for the sake of money stands well exposed in the novel. The author has smartly done the anatomy of the role of mafia and organized crime syndicates. The central theme of the novel is the mystery murder of Nelson Kerr in a stormy night. Nelson was a well known crime novelist. There was a rumor in the air that Nelson was writing a new novel to expose the Nursing Home Frauds. Bruce Cable, the owner of Bay Books, the lone book store in the Camino Island, knew this fact.Bruce is an interesting character who entertains his friends while offering them wine and Coffee in order to make them merry and happy. He is a popular figure among the writers community living in the island. Bruce is informed by Police about the death of Nelson and he stood shocked to learn that . After seeing the scene of occurrence he and his friends reviewed the events of the past week and carried out an anatomy of the happenings. They came to the conclusi that it was not a natural death but a planned murder bringing in the element of mystery in the novel. The author has successfully established that we live in the world of informers, snitches ,whistle blowers and rats .One of the main motive behind killings , as per author , is to punish culprits of bad business deals. Espionage and contract killings are rampant and spy services thrive on the strength of beautiful women whom they recruit and these charming ladies know how to seduce the wanted person. The spy services recruit typical ex-servicemen who in their career had never responded to authority and worked for their own motives. The author brings out that equity and equality are scarified to extend beneficial actions to undeserved. People stand cheated as usual and the state authority bestows gains to the thugs of the society. And it all happens through corruption and unlawful means. The state organs as usual fail to check the formation of monopolies .The fraudesters thrive while defeat the state regulatory framework through the use of illegal means, In the end all these lopeholes are unearhed and character of state police force is exposed who are invoved in the ongoing crimes to provide shelter to the gangsters, The novel is built on a simple but powerful plot possessing all the key elements of a thriller. The charcters are fully developed who know their role perfectly. The protognist Bruce is liked by the readers and they cheer for him for his dynamic role and the way he helps to net the culprits, the antognists inspite of their powerful tools and the protognist forces them fail tin their endaveour to succeed in theplanned ugly designs. The character of county police is flat and static. The convolutions of the human personality, under the stress of artfully selected experience, are the chief fascination of the novel. The author has succesfully constructed the maze of lust greed, and desire which are basic causes for antognists to exploit the ordinary people whoes hearts are free from impurities of the soul. Camino Winds blow hard
I really enjoy most of the Grisham novels I have read, especially the legal ones. Camino Winds is different from them, as its theme is a beach community in Florida with a bookshop cum community focus and a crowd of authors, lead by the bookshop owner. When the hurricane hit the island, about a dozen people lost their lives in the storm. One of them was part of the writers’ community, and three friends who were called together to identify the body suspected foul play. Grisham cleverly follows this cast of unlikely detectives in their search for justice for their friend. I like the way Grisham develops his plot, sketches his characters and gives a really good feel of a beach community devastated by the hurricane. A very enjoyable read.

Great story
The story was great, almost believable. But the way Grisham develops the main characters is fantastic. Easily visualized. Of course, I've read Camino Island, so I was already familiar with many of the "writer's club". Not a big fan of the cheap shots that he takes at anything big, and the assumption everything is about money. But that sells, right? Looking forward to Camino Ghosts.

trust your gut feelings
Couldn’t stop reading! Plot scary but possible. What seems impossible becomes possible, but there must be those who will pursue the truth despite lack of expertise or fear of danger,

A great read, the 2nd in the Camino trilogy. It starts a little slow but builds momentum with some interesting twists and a solid ending.

I bought the used copy. It was sent from the UK in inpeckable condition. The story doesn't sound realistic but very carefully written. I enjoyed reading the book and meeting the familiar characters from the Camino Island.
