It’s a new machine with the older bobbin technology 😀
I love the metal bobbin case. I like that you can put it in vertically. I’m not a big fan of front loading plastic bobbin threader. It was terrible. So I bought this machine . I’m not having a problems with it. It was actually enjoyable to use

Okay machine
This is a great little sewing machine with good stitch quality. However, I think this model has one major design flaw, the bobbin winder. The bobbin winder is at an awkward angle, so my bobbins always wind more toward the bottom. I would prewind my bobbins on another machine or device instead of this machine's bobbin winder. How evenly the bobbins are wound seems to affect the stitch quality in my opinion (slightly slanted straight stitch). So that is my biggest complaint. I wish janome would redesign this machine with a vertical or horizontal spool pin as well. Although, this is more aesthetic than is needed. Also, would it kill Janome to add a thread cutter on the side...You even get thread cutters on machines for a cheaper price such as the singer heavy duty 4411. I digress, this machine is highly portable and just has the right amount of power to complete most projects. If you're looking for a more practical model, look at the Janome 5812. That model is better designed and provided more stitches and stitch length dial. I can't recommend this as a beginners sewing machine as the bobbin problems will ruin a fun sewing experience.

Thread hangs up
I think this is the worse sewing machine I have ever used. I have an old Janome 1 step but needs repair. Since I don't sew very much anymore thought I would get a new machine just for quick projects. So I looked at the Janome of course. But I will have my old machine repaired because this one is horrible!

SEE UPDATE AFTER ONE YEAR. Cute little machine with tiny foot print.
UPDATE. After having used this machine for a few days over one year I wanted to come back with an update. Repeated issues with the thread slipping off the hook guide at the top back of the machine so had to come up with something to stick on to stop that. Consistently had thread wedge and build up in the moving joints of the machine requiring it to be taken apart and removal of the bound up thread winding around the joints of the arm. Consistent jams with the bobbin case breaking the thread. Inconsistent stitches. Since I use this machine daily I have meticulously kept it clean and free of lint build up and light oiling. Today it seezed up solid. It’s not an expensive machine and I guess I would have hoped it would have lasted longer than a year. I’m expecting it will cost more to have it repaired than I paid for it. Given the struggle I have had with it through out the past year and it no having a thread cutter and no auto threader I will have to think twice about buying another one. I am shopping for something that is a bit more heavy duty. I wanted something small enough I could travel with it while I visit Mexico for three months in the winter and still work. Powerful enough to do the job with ease. This little gem fills the bill. I wish it had just few more stitches to choose from but it does the trick and that's all that matters. The price was right too.

Don't buy this if you do any large amount of sewing.
The thread tends to get caught up in the mechanics at times. When I got it I noticed that someone else's packing slip was on the side of the box. (Obviously a return.) I don't sew a lot so I just decided to keep it. But if you do sew a lot, don't get this machine.
