Saving Me
I can't begin to tell you what it's like to be a raw vegan for 19 years and learn it's not a sustainable diet. I developed a chronic colon infection along with chronic pain in my joints. I was brainwashed into hating the foods my body required for sustainability. I fell into deep depression thinking I would have to eat food I hated. Maria Emmerich changed that and my depression is gone. I look forward to making myself a plan every day with her fun recipes. Thanks Ms. Maria! The food in this book and other cook books of Ms. Maria E. are soooo good. I have learned I can halt my healing if I don't stay on task with high fat and some protein. It's been 6 weeks and my chronic pain is 2 out 10. I've already had a healing crisis with my liver and gallbladder releasing cholesterol stones. I'm so looking forward to exercising again.I had chronic migraines when I was advised by a naturopath to eat nothing but fruit to heal sacroiliitis. I finally gave up the fruit and ate savory vegetables. My migraines just disappeared. This book explains how excess fructose (even from fruits) overwhelm the liver and cause fatty liver. The book gives good practical advice on supplementing yourself. It's great. I can blood test myself on Ms. Maria's website at a very reasonable price. I still have a lot to learn with more books like keto. If I have any trouble, I can get a consult. The information is so easy to understand and I'm making great progress. Good book! Good job!

The "Plan" is a reduced-calorie one
Like many of the other reviewers on here, I noticed that this book lacked a specific plan on how to become keto-adapted. I was, however, still intrigued by this diet and really wanted to make it work. I bought Maria's $150 30-day plan on her website and guess what... It's a 1200 calorie a day plan including a lot of salads, small portions of meat and bacon and eggs. I paid a lot of money for this information... Be ye not so stupid. Basically, here is the plan: (1) Eat no more than 1200 calories worth of low-carb foods until you become "keto-adapted". (2) Lose weight and assume it is because of ketones, but it will really be because duh, less calories. My main peeve with this book is that it is basically click-bait to get the readers to buy her expensive plans, however, I also agree that there were many contradictions in this book. She says not to eat dairy or artificial sweetners, but nearly all of her dessert recipes contain an artificial sweetner called Swerve as well as dairy.I will say her recipes are excellent for someone that is doing a paleo or low-carb diet. Most of them are freely available on her site, so there's really no need to buy the books.

You will quickly learn it is a lifestyle and just wait and see how you FEEL once you get your body converted to burning fat instead of sugar!I still reference thiis book and have 3 of her cookbooks. I am reviewing b/c I am a believer. I have also purchased copies for gifts.Thank you Maria!!!!

So this is what wrong!
Almost everything you need to know about your body to succeed in following the Keto diet. Includes what you can expect from this life-style change diet, especially if you just can't seem to shed the pounds. Helps you understand what this improvement to your eating can do for your metabolism and to help reverse the side effects of some of the things we have ingested in ignorance. Very enlightening book as well as encouraging information to get you started on a healthier choice of foods. Check out her cookbooks and get ready to realize you are not giving up anything except a "bad out come" by eating off the shelf. It has always amazed me that for all the time our Doctors spend in school learn how to help their patient's, that very little time was involved in learning how these bodies we live in can heal themselves, if only given a proper diet, and the removal of some of the hurdles that impede the body's ability to heal itself. So much information in the book....enjoy the read.

The best keto guide
This book is probably the BEST entry guide into keto that I have ever read. Maria points out the importance of the keto diet and gives you great supplement help for common problems. I have loaned my original book out so many times through the years that I just purchased a new copy just for me without all the tattered pages! It has some recipes in it, but please get the recipe books also. The 30 Day Cleanse is the best to start with. It has a facebook group to keep you on track and inspired.

A helpful and easy read
I loved reading this book. I have bought 4 of Maria's books so far. Two books helping me understand how and why Keto is so important. And two cookbooks which I love! My husband does too. Both of us have experienced improved health in just a few short months and it my belief that following her advice that I will be completely free of the thyroid medicine that I have been on for the past 19 years. We are believers and new to the Keto world. If you are new, this is a great place to start as she tackles so many specific issues. She includes the science but at an easy and enjoyable reading pace. Thank you Maria!

Good recipes, but otherwise an average read
I was not overly impressed with the content of the book nor the writing style, layout or formatting. There are definitely better books out there on the subject of keto adaptation using dietary methods. The one strength for those interested in living a keto lifestyle is the many recipes and food ideas to adapt to the diet, it is this that earned the book it’s three stars.

Excellent practical guide
This is definitely one of the best books on nutritional ketosis and she covers many different conditions - definitely knows her stuff. More practical that the number one book (in my view) which she refers to several times - Art and science of Low-Carb Living - Phinney&VolekLovely recipes too !!

Also too many glowing comments from satisfied clients and not enough science
The writing style is a bit too evangelical and extreme for my taste. Also too many glowing comments from satisfied clients and not enough science.

Don't get this if you want lots of great recipes, a list of foods you can eat ...
Don't get this if you want lots of great recipes, a list of foods you can eat and an enjoyable approach to going carb free. This is for people who are very used to American food (so not the kind of stuff I ever eat) and for people who are willing to eat no more than about 4 types of veg in their diet.
