Excellent OWB Holster - Works Both With or Without Light Attached
I carry a Glock 23 daily in an IWB setup, but I like to have an OWB for range trips, when working out on the farm and for classes and running drills. For a few years I have carried my Glock 23 OWB in a standard Blackhawk SERPA. However, there are some issues with the SERPA design such that when drawing a Glock quickly your index finger can slip into the trigger guard, creating the risk of a negligent discharge. I also wanted a holster that would accept the pistol with a Streamlight TLR-1s tactical light attached, and the 6378 ALS fit the bill.I have been using this holster for a couple of months now and it exceeds my every expectation. The package included both paddle and belt attachments. The holster is rugged, formed from a thick, rigid material that has held up to some fairly hard use. The locking system that retains the firearm is very intuitive. It is released by swiping a small lever positioned right where your shooting hand thumb rests when obtaining a full grip on the pistol. A quick, short swipe with the thumb and the pistol is free to draw. You can also adjust the tension of the holster itself and how it grips the firearm, allowing you to change the friction of the draw to your taste. The inside of the holster is lined with a soft, durable cloth material that protects the finish of your pistol. The pistol with the light attached fits perfectly in the holster; It's held in place securely with no play or movement. I was pleasantly surprised to find out you can even holster the pistol without the light attached and it is held just as securely. It's not a fluke, this is by design. There is a small protrusion in the bottom of the holster that rests just inside the end of the barrel that both holds the pistol firmly in place and allows the retention device to work without the light attached. Awesome! The Safariland 6378 ALS is the perfect open carry holster for me. It's a rugged design, holds the pistol relatively close to your body, offers effective weapon retention, and accepts the pistol with or without a light attached. I highly recommend this holster.

Great holster, no "thinking" necessary for the thumb release
I spent a good amount of time researching a concealment holster for my Glock. I was looking a holster both for every day carry and for IDPA sport shooting events without breaking the bank too much. There are a lot of fan's out there for Blade Tech and CompTac holsters, with good reason, they make good holsters. But, I kept returning to the BlackHawk Serpa line and the SafariLand ALS line as "good values" with positive, locking retention instead of just friction retention. After much thought and research, I ruled out the Serpa because I didn't like the idea of manipulating my trigger finger during the draw. Just me, I like the idea of a thumb release much better. All of the Safariland videos say that the ALS thumb release requires no "thought" or manipulation to actuate the release. I'm here to tell you that is ABSOLUTELY TRUE. If you start with the thumb on your draw-hand in the "thumbs up" position, or the 1911 thumb safety position, simply grasping the handgun will release the retention mechanism. Every time, smoothly and without any conscious thought. I had some slight doubts going in, but I'm a believer now. And, the ALS stands for Automatic Locking System. It is automatic. Holster the gun and the lock clicks into place on the ejection port.My only con, would be how stiff it is to get the holster on and off with the paddle affixed. As others have mentioned, the holster features a tab (removable) that hooks under your belt. It takes a bit to get the paddle holster on and off, especially compared to my Probus for a different gun, but I think it is impossible to draw the gun, holster and all... the holster stays put. And, tight to your body.My Glock fits perfectly in the holster, goldilocks, not too tight, not too loose. Didn't need to touch the tension adjustment screw. Finally, some have mentioned that their holster did not come with the belt loop attachment. Mine absolutely did. In fact, it came in a retail SafariLand plastic clamshell package, the easy open kind, not the kind that requires a chainsaw to open. The belt attachment is standard from SafariLand for the 6378, so perhaps retailers other than Amazon are separating them. My order was fulfilled by Amazon.PROs: - Fits the gun perfectly - Inexpensive, purchased with Prime shipping at about a third off retail - Simple, positive thumb-release retention - Paddle fits tight and with belt tab, it's not coming off nor moving with the drawCONs: - Tight tension between the paddle and holster plus a belt tab/hook takes a few seconds to get on and off. -

Perfect fit, good retention, quality product
It’s a solid Safariland product. Fits my handgun perfectly (be careful about selecting the correct model). Easy and smooth thumb release and smooth draw. Easy re-holstering with an audible “snap” when gun is properly seated and secured. Rides close to the body for good concealment, although obviously not as close as a leather pancake holster. Glad I bought it; highly recommended.

Good Construction
A bit of a warning: I actually purchased this for a Glock 30 with a TLR-1 light attached (because no one seems to make a good Glock 30 w/ light holster). It does not fit. Upon inspection, the Glock 30 light rail sits significantly lower (from the barrel) than the Glock 21 light rail. DO NOT GET THIS FOR A GLOCK 30.Having said that. The construction seems extremely sturdy. I tried it with a friends Glock 21 and it fits like a glove. I was surprised at how easily it could be holstered. The paddle is extremely stout and a bit of a chore to put on or take off. I think it is easier to put the paddle on first and then put the belt through it. The paddle is molded to your hip. When in the proper position, it is very comfortable and rock solid (your weapon will not slide on your belt). The down side is that you have to have the holster in one specific spot on your hip, slightly forward of your hip. So if you prefer it to be slightly behind your hip (like I do), bear that in mind. The locking mechanism works very well, while keeping the release hidden. Using the release is also counter-intuitive, even if you do see it, which I am listing as a good thing. Train yourself to use it properly, and even if someone does see the release and attempts a gun grab, they will probably try to use it incorrectly.Overall, I would strongly recommend it, and plan to get an ALS holster (sans light, apparently) for my handgun.

Best holster ever. I've had Safariland for a long time. Never fails and very durable. This holster doesn't have the top hood and its a level 2. Ideal for daily carry. Not a conceal carry holster though as I find it too bulky unless you wear extra large clothing.Best bang for your buck

Top product!
Any way you cut it, the Safariland 6378 ALS paddle Holster is one of the best for any type of field use, open carry - or if you have to put on and take off your firearm quickly. It works beautifully with the compact Glock 19 (or Glock 23, for that matter), which is one of the most popular carry pistols around. The paddle is removable, and the holster also includes a belt loop with a set of screws, so you can use the holster for attachment onto a conventional belt, if you prefer that. The belt loop fits belts from 1.5" to 1.75" in width. I haven't tried it but it might be possible to mount the holster body to other mounting options offered separately by Safariland. The ALS - Automatic Locking System - is secure and extremely intuitive. With some dedicated training, it is possible to draw as fast as if no Level I Retention was there in the first place. If I would carry a pistol in an open top holster into the field, I would at least choose the ALS for improved weapon retention. An uninitiated individual would probably have trouble to snatch the pistol because the ALS Lever is pretty unobtrusive, hard to see and difficult to disengage - except for the carrier.I highly recommend this holster for the G19/23.

It’s to bad
Although this holster did not work for my particular pistol, it’s quality and sleek finish was very difficult to return, leaving me to toy with the idea of acquiring the pistol it was meant for. I returned the product without issue and the process was very simple.... I have reviewed other products from this vendor so that I may do business with them again
