Great History and Process Resource
My personal take is that the zine scene of yesteryear has now largely given way to Internet blogs and online personal video presentations. But, there clearly are still people who wish to produce print zines and there is certainly no reason to not do it. So, if you want a zine process and resource history lesson or if you want to know how to produce your own zine, this book will be of great help. The book covers a lot of 'how to' that is clearly stated and easy to follow. There are also plenty of anecdotes from either the author's perspective or those of his acquaintances. So, you get a good idea of what you are getting yourself into if you should decide to do a zine. And if you simply want to know what the daily grind of zine-making is about, you get plenty of that.Topics covered include how to get started with your concept, how to realize it into printable form, how to get that printed, and how to distribute it or get it distributed. Copyright and trademark issues are also covered. Many examples of zines are offered as well as many people or places to contact for further information.I highly recommend this book for those in cultural studies with an emphasis on DIY (do-it-yourself) culture. I also recommend to to teachers who may wish to do a zine project with their students. Finally, it is a great read for those simply wishing to know what the zine scene is all about.

Great explanation on Zines
Great explanation on Zines. I plan to use this in a unit plan for middle school students. I am anxious to see how they take to it. Zining is kind of awesome, and this book gives a lot of detail about the why's and how's to zine.

Information packed how to make Zines and sell them with lots of examples and pitfall warnings.
If you have ever wanted to create books and have the published and become a rich world famous author this is the UR place to start; by making your own Zines by hand with the aid of photocopiers. The world of Zines is an underground movement where creators write and illustrate stories or ideas for direct sales on the street, car trunks, distros Zine distributors) and even mainstream publishers. It allows creators to get feedback from readers without the hassle of nitpick editors or bad mouthers. All the production issues are clearly explained and the pitfalls to avoid that plague self publishers. Self publishing is a great way to waste a lot of money and paper fast. By starting very small and building up your readership and relationships you avoid the tendency to give up, or quit or just goof off incessantly. The four page 8-1/2" x 11" pamphlet (what the Post Office calls Zines) is described in detail. This book is 25 years old and the era of photocopier stores has diminished but it's still fun to make Zines.

Not what I was looking for
It's a good book but it is a lot more in depth than I needed so I ended up returning it.
