Irwin auger, good quality, easy to use and works fast.
I love using good ol' fashioned elbow grease when I woodwork. So I have decided to be the unplugged woodworker shop. In that light, I have made it a choice to not use anything that is plugged into or uses electricity (except lights at night), while doing my woodworking. So I had to get some holes drilled, so i could chisel them out later in a square shape. At first i was using a drill bit, and then I saw an auger bit, and it fit the job perfectly. So now i can drill a huge diameter hole in no time. I use a brace and the auger and no piece of wood is safe from getting a hole drilled into it. I have bought multiple sizes auger bits, and they work great. They are easy to use and quick and efficient in boring a hole in the wood. Simple and easy and not electrical.

Works well with 4 Jaw Brace
I purchased this auger to work with my new Fuller Brace. I was amazed on how well this auger cut into hardwood.I use the bit/brace to teach Woodworking skills to students.Things to note: (1) This auger bit has a tapered, 4 sided shank - designed for use with a 4 jaw brace. (2) This is designed for a hand tool, not a power drill. (3) clamp your work piece or have someone help you hold down your work as you operate the brace. The bit will bite into the wood and try to move it around. (4) The 'starting screw' point really bites down and draws the bit into the wood. Your finished hole will have a small 'screw point' at the bottom (not smooth like a forsner bit). (5) The edges around your hole will need sanding. The auger bit tears the wood similar to a spade bit on an electric drill.I will be purchasing more of these bits and the Fuller braces (reviewed separately).

Great seller - Bad Product
Seller shipped immediately and package received in two days. Great seller but bad product. The first thing I noticed were burrs on the cutting edges. These I had to file off and clean the cutting surfaces. The cutting blades were not sharp so I sharpened them. In order for me to use this bit I had to cut off the end so that I could put it into my drill Chuck. IT DID DRILL THE HOLE. Thorough 5" of end grain, even at a slow speed and slow feed, it did not cut well. There was smoke and heat. Since I cut it off there is no return option for me but I DO NOT ADVISE BUYING.

Not as high quality as the antique Irwin Auger Bits
Not as high quality as the antique Irwin Auger Bits, I have purchased 3/4" & 3/8" auger bits. the 3/4 was OK after using auger bit file. the 3/8 was so bad that I have returned it , It simply didn't work.

Great replacement
Great replacement. My grandfather had two sets of bits for his brace but the 3/4 was missing from both sets, likely from that being the most used and likely to be dropped or damaged. This made a great replacement and can be sharpened like the others. Maybe I should get two.

First class!
I've had my brace for nigh on 20 years now, but no bits. I just built a new workbench and thought that now was the time to get a bit. I wanted to be able to avoid tearout as the bit exited from the bottom of the benchtop. This bit allowed me to slow way down at the end of the process. After about 30 holes, it still cuts well.

these are fine, what choice do you have?
They are fine and sharp drills, but as the other reviews said, they can be a bit brittle especially on the screw tips. I buy them for maple syrup tapping demos at our local nature center, and after 2 days of hand drilling with the kids, three bits are normally ready for the recycle bin. I'll keep buying them, but if it's mission critical, get a spare.
