Would not buy again. Used it about 6 or 8 times and it quite working.

I have a lot of cooking thermometers … meat thermometers, candy thermometers, frying thermometers and oven thermometers.The Seven Triangle Instant Read Thermometer is the second folding “Instant Read” digital cooking thermometer that I’ve ordered, the fourth “Instant Read” cooking thermometer.I checked the accuracy of the Seven Triangle Instant Read Thermometer by putting the probe into boiling water. I live at 53 feet above sea level, and the boiling temperature was spot on measuring 212° F.I also did a side by side comparison test of the Seven Triangle Instant Read Thermometer with my dial read, and glass tube candy thermometers. They all read at the same temperatures, but the digital readout on the Seven Triangle Instant Read Thermometer was much easier to read. (I didn’t need to “guestimate” what the temperature reading was like I do with the dial read, and glass tube candy thermometers.)The digital temperature readout is good sized, and is larger than the readout on the other two long probe style digital cooking thermometers that I own. It’s also large enough to see without needing to put on reading glasses.I checked the temperatures of a number of different foods and liquids. In each case it took the Seven Triangle Instant Read Thermometer between 20 and 25 seconds to reach the point that the numbers stopped changing, which is pretty fast, but much longer than the product description claim of 4 – 5 seconds.There are two On/Off modes. I found this thermometer to be comparable to others in its price range, however, the seller does offer a nice velour sleeve to store the thermometer in, and a meat guide insert as a bonus. Also, it’s shipped in a nice box (perfect for gift giving, if you plan for the thermometer to be a gift). The sellers have a website where you can get a free recipe eBook by providing your Amazon order number – nice touch.The description claims an accuracy of +/- 1 degree, which I found to be correct. I performed both the boiling water test and the ice water test. It read exactly 32.0 F for ice water (perfect score), and 212.7 F for boiling water (.7 degrees off). I performed the test twice for each, and the readings were consistent. You can see the results in my photos.The description claims an instant read time of 4-5 seconds, but in my tests it took 20-25 seconds before the temperature settled on a steady reading. Anything up to 30 seconds qualifies as “instant read,” so it’s still an instant read thermometer, even with the longer read time.Now for some details. The entire unit is around 6” in length. The tapered probe is just under 4 ½” and can fold into the unit. It securely clicks into place and is easy to open again. The thermometer automatically turns on when you open it, and turns off when you click it back into place. You can also use the on/off button. There’s an LCD display for the temperature readouts, which can be set for either Celsius or Fahrenheit with the push of a button. There’s a “Hold” button that you can press before removing the probe from your food and it will hold the temperature reading for you. The unit will automatically shut off after 10 minutes of inactivity.It takes one AAA battery that’s included. The insert provides good directions for operating the thermometer, as well as acceptable temperatures for various types of meat. This model is almost exactly the same as several others sold under other names.So, although read times are longer than stated, it’s still fairly accurate for a low-end digital thermometer. This is my 2nd foldable digital thermometer I have purchased off of Amazon. As the main cook of my household, I like the fact that using digital thermometers takes the guesswork out of knowing whether or not a piece of meat is cooked to the exact degree of doneness that I want it.This digital thermometer arrives in a very nice, sturdy box, nestled in foam padding. The drawstring storage pouch is great to store the thermometer in when not in use. The instructional pamphlet/cooking temperature guide is printed on cardstock in full color. It is easy to read. I actually like the packaging of this foldable digital thermometer over my other one from Amazon.I received this digital thermometer at a discount in exchange for my honest review. Unfortunately, this Seven Triangle digital thermometer never worked correctly. The LED display would turn on, but it never displayed a cooking temperature, no matter how long I left it in the piece of meat. For that reason, I will have to rate this product as 1 out of 5 stars.11/9/16 Update:This company offered me a complimentary replacement for my defective thermometer. The new one works perfectly. So, I am changing my 1 star to 5 stars. I am now a happy customer with a working thermometer!!
