GREAT WITH SHORTS IF:
I wear shorts when I weed eat. Other reviews indicated that the hard plastic edges would rub and irritate the skin when wearing shorts. I located this product (U-channel double edge trim) also on AMAZON and it corrected this problem perfectly. A short learning curve installing the trim, but well worth it. I used a small clip and tweezers to assist with the installation. I have used the TUFF SHINS with numerous times and washed them with a hose after each use and the trim has stayed attached thus far. Great product with shorts with u-channel rubber trim installed.

No More Rock Cuts and Stinging Bloody Shins!
My wife suggested I find something to protect my legs from all the flying rocks and debris while using the weed trimmer (I use it also to clear the undeveloped land behind our house in the greenbelt), because in my denial of being older with developing vericose veins, I still think I’m young and tough and can withstand all those hits and nicks that shrapnel my lower legs that leave cuts and dried blood runs after a fun and productive weed whacker workout, even through sweats and jeans.Well, I fortunately found these super easy-to-put-on thick pieces of plastic armor that wrap around to protect my lower legs like a charm. Not only did I not feel any rocks and pebbles or sticks pummeling my legs, I wasn’t as tired as I was before after battling out the rugged terrain, and of course - no nicks or cuts or blood runs.As for an occasional snake…I haven’t encountered them while weed whacking, so I haven’t had these on when that happens. However, when I do, I just sick my miniature dachshund on them, and there’s nothing more he likes than the thrill of the hunt and shake ‘em to death kill of the slithering intruders! (I’m sure these shin guards would be very helpful in the event of a startled snake that would want to strike). There are no straps to fuss with and nothing to wash…I just wipe all the dust and debris off before sliding them together to put away…ready for the next round of fancy weed eater dining.

Great for brush clearing
Hubby just spent 3 days clearing brush from a 1.86 acre lot wearing these. He reported they were comfortable, protected him from flying debris, and were quick to put on and take off. Happily, he didn't encounter any snakes. But when you see these Tuff Shins, it's obvious that no snake fangs will get through them.I like that the protection covers the front of the knee too.

They work very well but not great
They work well keeping debris from cutting your legs while weed eating. I believe they would protect you legs from a snake bite as they are made of hard plastic. My only issue with them is they tend to move a little, my whole thing was to wear these with shorts while running the weed eater, but they are not very comfortable my opinion

Quickly goes on, stays on & up, PROTECTS BEST!!
As we get older, our skin gets thinner so injuries to our legs become more common. If you have other issues like diabetic dermopathy, it is even worse because the resulting sores heal poorly. I've tried everything - soccer shin guards, hockey goalie guards, motocross, etc. They all slipped, were bulky, & often caused more problems & sores than wearing nothing! This product snaps on quickly, doesn't sag, and protects your lower leg and shin completely - front and back. If you have problems with perspiration, drilling a few small holes in them fixes that.I love these!! Wear them every day.

Comfortable peace-of-mind, when you’re in snake country...
I live in Carefree AZ. The rattlesnake capital of the universe. You learn to look down when you walk in the yard or even the street. I must do yard work in the springtime outside my snakefenced backyard area, when there are baby rattlers — meaning there are even more of them. The small ones are harder to see. If you wear boots and these legs guards, you are covered for all but a freak bite (from bending over to pick-up something?). Snakes typically hang around shady areas, as they can’t stay in the sun for more than a few minutes. They pretty much go from shade to shade while hunting prey. They typically bite humans about 3”- 8” in elevation, or your upper ankle/lower calf muscle area. These leggings cover that and higher to the knee, if you wear leather hiking-type boots. They are easy to put-on, lightweight, and easy to walk in. After awhile, you forget you have them on. I think you could hike in them. Last week, outside my snake fence, I had a 4.5’ rattler get within 3’ of me, as I stood motionless. I never saw him until he was that close, (my bad, they are very quiet!). He ignored me, as I posed no threat. If I hadn’t seen him, who knows, but I was DARN GLAD I had these on...

Keepers. Update to 5 stars.
Although I haven't used these very much so far, I think this is a worthwhile product, and just what I was looking for at a decent price. I needed snake protection for hiking, but they will be helpful when weed whacking, too. I'm going to try them on my motorcycle, because I was also looking for additional protection there. Of course they will probably be a little warm in the summer, and being a single hard piece for each leg doesn't allow as much movement in upper or lower areas, but after wearing them for a while, it is tolerable. For long hikes, it would be best to wear them over pants or long socks. You should probably hike in long pants, anyway. The overlapping on the leg makes an easy-on, easy-off, operation. Just open them up and snap them on. And I also like the way they overlap close to the arch of my sneakers/shoes/boots.I am average male size, and I probably won't need further adjustments or trimmings around the yard.Update: I made a mistake of not wearing these on a neighborhood walk 6 months ago and got a severe dog bite. If I had these on, I would have been safer.I have now used these on walks, hiking trails, bicycling, motorbiking, and yard trimmimg. Easy on and off. Still in new condition. They are tough! Expensive, but paying for the cost. Among best money I have spent.
