The lenticular image on the box makes it feel as if you're heading towards the Lonely Mountain regardless of where you are looking at it from. The CD contains four recordings, three of them rare, of Tolkien reading from the first, second and fifth chapters of the book. The box also contains Thror's Map as Tolkien originally wanted it to be printed, so that if you hold it up to the light you can see the Moon Runes; a commemorative booklet that covers the history of The Hobbit, its publication and later editions, as well as the poem The Hoard and Tolkien's lecture on dragons from 1938, reproduced in full for the first time, and of course the book as it was originally published with the dust jacket in black, green, blue and white, and without the changes that were later made to chapter five. Not only are original first editions of The Hobbit hard to find, but they are very expensive to purchase because of the small number of copies that was printed, but this gift set makes it possible for those who love the book to get their hands on what was a rare version of the text at a cheaper price, with the added items that I've mentioned above.
