To attach the buttplate to the M1 Garand, you need two screws -- a long screw and a short screw. This is the short screw. Mine showed a slight amount of rust but were serviceable. It screwed right into the butt as designed. Only a Government contractor would have had different length screw requirements in the context. So I had to order a long screw for the second hole in the buttplate. RJB.
