No respect for the audience by simply remaking Star Wars A New Hope
When I saw this film in the theater I really liked it. It seemed like a good reboot to the Star Wars franchise. Unfortunately upon further viewing I have come to enjoy it less and less. The basic problem is that it is just the first Star War movie rehashed. Instead of the Empire the First Order is now the bad guy. Instead of the young and inexperienced Luke Skywalker there’s Rey played by Daisy Ridley. Instead of Darth Vader there is Kylo Ren in some horrible casting played by Adam Driver Vader’s grandson. Instead of the desert planet of Tatooine there’s the desert planet of Jakku. Instead of the movie starting with Princess Leia being captured by the bad guys but not before she puts some important information for the rebels inside a little robot that escapes, it’s pilot Poe Dameron played by Oscar Isaac that’s caught and puts data into his bot BB-8 that escapes. And of course the bot is found by the hero aka Skywalker who is Rey in this film, and the information leads to an old and wise Jedi Knight Obi Wan in the original and Skywalker in this version. Finally, what is a Star Wars flick without a Death Star, this time called Starkiller Base. That means you can guess how this ends. It’s like the writers and director had no respect for the audience at all, and didn’t want to spend the time coming up with an original story. The only really good new twist to the film was the arrival of Han Solo played by Harrison Ford and Chewbacca played by Peter Mayhew because they added some levity to the story. Otherwise just watch Star Wars A New Hope. It’s a far better movie.C

More "Inclusive," Less Interesting Version of "A New Hope"
Extremely derivative of the original Star Wars movie (an act for act, if not a scene for scene, remake) with even more special effects and bigger plot holes. It is almost as if those making the movie decided that be simply making the main character female and minimizing the presence of white, male actors for the good guys, they could avoid wasting time on trivial things like plot and story telling.

Best of the New Trilogy By A Legends Fan
This is the best overall film of the New Trilogy thusfar. The Last Jedi is hyper controversial and philosophical [and I actually love it because It explores a tough subject matter, disillusionment among Jedi and Sith and rebirth of faith in the Force]. The Force Awakens captures a glint of the glory, awe, and wonder of A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back. The Force Awakens is superior to the Prequels/Anakin Skywalker Arch because it invests in the characters ans builds on tjeir realtionahips realistically, similar to A New Hope: common objective, common enemy, team work anx etc oppose to the Prequels more complex political alliances, and emphasis on Zoroastrian and Dualist ideologies. The Force Awakens is pure fun, with enough lore and wonder to keep it from being campy or a total knock off.In particular I applaud J.J. Abrams for his handling of Kylo Ren as a villain. He isn’t a Vader clone or Darth Maul cult creating character, he is the antithisis, unsurd of himself and conflicted, his insecurity and tryingvto overshadow it with Dark Side prowess makes him actuslly more relatable than the dogmaticism of Darth Vader. Kylo Ren is a Sith for a new generatiok, that no doubt may carry the same conflict inside.Rey who has been labeled a Mary Sue, is acruslly refreshing. Men have had plenty of Jedi and Force affilates to choose from: Luke Skywalker, Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda, and maby more; girls and women have only ad Aayla Secura and Ahsoka Tano for female Jedi and they are aliens not humans like Rey. [Legends fans have had Bastila Shan and Mara Jade Skywalker for major human female Jedi].Finn and Poe both are welcome heroes, one a former stormtrooper and the other a resistance pilot. Their dialogue during their escape from The First Order at the beginning of the Force Awakens always gives me a good chuckle.I want to seal this review by stating I am a Legends/EU die hard who knows Dash Rendar, Exar-Kun, Ulic-Quodroma, Mara Jade, Revan, Darth Plagueis, Prince Xinor, the Jed’Daii (proto-Jedi tribes), Ashla and Bogan (Light and Dark Side), Force Grip is a grey power (light or dark depending on who you are using it on), and so much more. I have been following the Legends, called Expanded Universe when I was young, and I enjot the Force Awakens.

Worst of Star Wars Franchise - Major let down
Spoiler alert.Pros:Good millennium falcon chase sceneChewy's crossbow is finally shot and is comically over-poweredThat's all the good parts of this movieCons:Totally uninspired plot. Dark Side hunting down rebel, I mean resistance scum. Sneak into Station and disable the shield generators for the 3rd time. Fly down a trench amidst blaster fire to destroy a space weapon controlled by the dark side that can annihilate entire planets. (drawing paralells to the previous movies is one thing, but this is lazy writing)Too much CGISoccerball droidR2D2 missing for 3/4 of moviePoorly written dialogueHan Solo's son is EMO/GOTHNonsensical monsters and pointless plot fillerThey killed Han Solo when Carrie Fisher was the one looking half dead in the movieA person who just picked up a light saber FOR THE FIRST TIME fights someone so adept in the ways of the dark side they can stop blaster fire telepathically, and winsIt's filmed in a way that doesn't feel like a star wars, big action shots, giant panoramas, it's more like some garbage transformers action movieJohn Williams fell utterly short of his usual mark in regards to the score of the movie. This wasn't a bad movie but it is the WORST Star Wars movie. An autobiographical musical pic about JAR JAR BINKS would have been better.I was so close to giving this one star. It hurt a lot to see something I loved so much fall so low. Never again tho!

Great 3d HD colour presentation of the film. (Collectors Edition BluRay)
Saw this on the big screen in 3d when it first came out. Very good film for which there will be many reviews about the story etc which can be read elsewhere. What I want to say here is that this looked a lot better on our t.v. than it did at "the pictures".Big screen HD tv/3d BluRay combination really demonstrated:-1. the superior quality of the original film, shot at least partly on true 70mm film. Sharp with good colour (not one of those washed out grey colour films where everyone looks like they need a blood transfusion)2. the 3d effects are superb and definitely worth the extra price over 2d version.3. great presentation of the sound effects, dialogue and the music.there are extras included and a nice 3d image on the box which are all worth having to some extent, but it was the 3d that really "stood out" for me

Brilliant, 3D graphics are excellent...
For a 3D movie, this has to be the one to watch. The 3D graphics are sharp, clear and just as one would expect as cinema quality. Buy this and get absorbed into the 3D world as it really is like being there and witnessing everything that happens. There's nothing else I can say about this film except it is great value at £15. Note that some of the negative reviews are uncalled for as the problem is certainly with their TVs. When I tried some 3D movies, via my XBox One S, there were problems, even with this movie. The voices of the main characters were not audible and the movie was in HD only. So, after a bit of tweaking with the TV settings and a new "4K, 3D" HDMI cable and all is now brilliant. So, before buying a 3D and / or a 4K version, make sure that your HDMI cables are "compatable" as normal HDMI cables can not handle UHD / 4K / 3D. Watch this movie in 3D, with the correct cable and the best settings and you will be amazed at how things like the Millenium Falcon actually come out of the screen. Brilliant movie and even better in 3D.

Rehash of an old idea.
At the cinema I got drawn in by the spectacle, my 13 year old enjoying the treat, six months later and we are watching this again and I see now all its flaws and reashing of the first release New Hope and start groaning. Treat it as an enjoyable 'what you see what you get' entertaiment, do not read anything more into it, all the elements are there action, SPX, whimsy of old familiar characters to keep the 70's class happy, and it is okay but it really is a remake. Crystal crisp DVD as you would expect now.

Kept low expectations, was not disappointed
Refreshing first episode of the new trilogy. The style and story telling blends in very well with the original trilogy. Love locations like Jakku, the Takadone bar. The new heroes are quite appealing in particular to kidsMild spoiler: Somewhat disappointing that the story line had to stick the old proven-concept of A New Hope, Return of the Jedi and The Phantom Menace where the enemy base had to be blown up in the ending scenes. Our 8-year old daughter who is a big fan of the series, liked the movie the lightsaber action in particular and the new hero Rey.We buy the 3D version of movies where possible. This 3D version at home on our fairly high-end OLED screen is excellent and bright.
