Q: Can anyone tell me the dimensions of the middle drawer? I need to know how tall it is.

3 3/4" deep. Also know that every 4" there is a fixed divider, so it is very limited to what you can put in there.One other thing to let you know is I put my tools in there and the first step I tried to pull it up the handle broke. It has a lifetime warrantee, but I have not had a chance to see if they honor their warrantee. Just know the handle doesn't hold up well.

Q: is this better plastic than the Stanley? I checked out the Stanley and it was flimsy plastic.

NO! the Stanley fatmax and this Dewalt are exactly the same! I have bought both and only lasted a good 6 months before they are completed non functioning. I definitely use and abuse the mobile tool boxes and love them, however, i need something a lot more sturdy!

You can only put a pad lock on the top tool box. The other two lower boxes lock with the two stabilizers on the sides. (the two diagonal pieces between the first and the third box) you pull back on the top end, and at the same time you push down on the bottom end. This is a great box for small, not to heavy tools. the whole tool box is a little flimsy, but it works and separates tools nicely. I personally love the way this tool box opens, very convenient, and space efficient. But I'll be honest, if you wanna carry heavy tools or taking this to the construction site, i don't recommend it. get the Though System carrier by DeWalt. that will run you about $ 280.00 to $ 300.00 but that one is heavy duty. You can even use it as a hand truck. i have transported 4 80 lb. sacks of concrete and it rolls just fine. i hope this helps you . God Bless, and happy building.
